The raccoon has a body length of 40 to 70cm, a tail length of 20 to 40cm and a shoulder height of 23-30cm. The weight of adult raccoons varies widely depending on their habitat, ranging from 2 to 14 kilograms, but usually between 3.5 and 9 kilograms. Very small raccoons have been found in southern Florida and larger raccoons in the north. At the beginning of winter, a raccoon weighs twice as much as it does in spring because of fat storage.
