Dahlia bulb planting method, how to accelerate the germination of Dahlia bulb is better to plant in which month
Do you know the method of planting dahlia bulbs? Do you want to know if you grow a pot of dahlias that you still see? Then learn quickly!
Dahlia bulbs must be planted with light bulbs in full bloom in spring before starting the cold and dormancy they need. The root will develop rapidly from the bottom, and later the stem will sprout from the top. If possible, avoid planting long enough warm spells sprouting from the soil. If the air and soil temperature are cold enough, the stem buds will only grow directly below the surface and will stop when the soil temperature drops further due to freezing temperatures.
Once the night temperature is always between 40 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit, spring light bulbs can be planted before the first hard frost. The soil will be cool enough to achieve optimal rooting. Bulbs should be planted about six weeks before the ground freezes. Bulbs that have enough time to take root also go through a natural process to prevent them from freezing.
After the ground freezes, apply 2-4 inch mulch to maintain a more stable soil temperature. Mulch also prevents rapid thawing / freezing cycles in early spring, which allows your light bulb to rise from the ground. If your area experiences extreme weather or rapid changes, such as the Great Lakes or the northern region of 1-3, you may want to choose blooming light bulbs that may not be affected by late frost in the future.
Dahlia bulbs in full bloom in summer, including rhizomes, bulbs, tubers, and root plants, can be planted in spring once the soil begins to warm. Stronger summer blooming bulbs such as irises and cauliflower can be planted early without being bothered by cool soil. Warmer light bulbs, such as begonia, dahlias, gladiolus, tropical canna and Fritillaria, would rather wait until the soil is quite warm in spring.
