The Academy of Thermal Sciences is a national tropical agricultural research institution, its predecessor is the South China Special Forestry Research Institute established in Guangzhou in 1954. In the past 60 years, the institute has devoted itself to tropical agricultural research, and has made remarkable and very practical scientific and technological achievements in cultivating and introducing new varieties of agriculture in hot areas, promoting the development of modern agriculture in hot areas, and ensuring the effective supply of national natural rubber and characteristic agricultural products. In terms of the support of the natural rubber industry, the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences broke the internationally recognized conclusion that "more than 17 degrees north latitude is a forbidden zone for rubber planting" and created a miracle in the history of planting rubber trees in a large area at 18-24 degrees north latitude. and the improved planting materials of rubber trees were realized 30 years ahead of schedule. More than 95% of the technology of the natural rubber industry and 75% of the relevant national standards and industry standards are formulated by the Academy of Thermal Sciences, which has promoted the three industrial upgrading of China's rubber planting industry. In the face of the new situation of the fourth industrial upgrading of the natural rubber industry, at present, the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences has made efforts in the cultivation of new varieties of rubber, natural rubber production technology, production efficiency technology, efficient and safe rubber mining technology, automatic processing technology and high-performance natural rubber products to support industrial upgrading in an all-round way.

The scientific research achievements of the Academy of Thermal Sciences are numerous: it is the first in the world to complete the whole genome sequencing of cassava and the model of efficient transport and accumulation of photosynthates, and 12 new varieties of cassava with high yield and high quality have been selected. it has directly promoted the formation of a bioenergy sunrise industry with an annual output value of 10 billion yuan. In the study of other important tropical cash crops, the Academy of Thermal Sciences has selected a series of excellent new mango varieties, which has promoted the establishment of the dominant industrial belt of late-ripening mango in China, and the popularization and application of the intensive production technology of pepper, caffeine, cocoa and sisal. China's per unit yield of these four major crops ranks among the world's advanced level and has become one of the major producing countries in the world. The artificial pollination method of vanilla has been innovated, more than 80 kinds of related scientific and technological products have been developed, the conversion rate of achievements has reached more than 90%, the direct economic benefits have reached nearly 500 million yuan, and the social and economic benefits have exceeded 5 billion yuan.

More importantly, the Academy of Thermal Sciences not only attaches importance to scientific research and development, but also attaches importance to the transformation and output of scientific research achievements, and the "going out" of tropical agricultural science and technology has repeatedly made new achievements for the country's scientific and technological diplomacy. The Academy of Thermal Sciences has successively established academic exchanges and cooperative research relations with 16 international scientific and technological organizations and more than 30 countries and regions, established 11 international cooperation platforms such as the FAO Tropical Agricultural Research and training reference Center and the international scientific and technological cooperation base, and undertaken more than 100 international cooperation projects.
