Introduction to the distribution and feeding habits of Sturgeon

1. Amur Sturgeon: it is distributed in Heilongjiang, Wusuli River, Songhua River and other places. It is an animal-eating fish and occasionally eats aquatic plants when there is less animal food. Juvenile fish mainly feed on zooplankton zoobenthos and aquatic insect larvae, while adults feed on aquatic insects and aquatic insect larvae, molluscs, benthic crustaceans, octopus eel larvae, and sometimes feed on small fish.

2. Dashi: it is mainly distributed in Heilongjiang and the lakes connected with its larger tributaries, especially in the middle reaches of Heilongjiang, followed by in the lower reaches of Wusuli River and Songhua River, and occasionally in the lower reaches of Nenjiang River. For large carnivorous freshwater fish, larvae feed mainly on benthic invertebrates, crustaceans and small fish, shrimp, insect larvae and so on.

3. Sakhalin Sturgeon: found in the Tumen River system in China. For large carnivorous fish, juvenile fish feed on benthic insects and small fish.

4. Chinese Sturgeon: it is mainly distributed from the Jinsha River to the estuary of the Yangtze River in China, and other water systems such as Ganjiang River, Xiangjiang River, Minjiang River, Qiantang River and Pearl River occur occasionally. The juvenile fish mainly feed on Chironomus larvae, dragonfly larvae, mayfly larvae and plant debris in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. in the salty and brackish waters of the estuary, the young fish feed on shrimp, crabs and small fish, and the parent fish do not feed during migration.

5. Amur Sturgeon: only distributed in the trunk and tributaries of the Yangtze River in China. It is an omnivorous fish. juvenile fish feed on aquatic oligoptera, dragonfly larvae, Diptera larvae, Chironomus larvae and small fish, while larger juvenile and adult fish feed on humus and benthic invertebrates and generally stop feeding during spawning period.

6. White Sturgeon: mainly found in the trunk and tributaries of the Yangtze River from Yibin to the Yangtze Estuary in China, and also found in the lower reaches of the Qiantang River and the Yellow River. For large and ferocious fish, adult and juvenile fish are fish as the staple food, but also eat a small amount of shrimp, crabs and other animals.

7. Naked-bellied Sturgeon: distributed in Yili River, Xinjiang. For carnivorous fish, juvenile fish feed on insect larvae and adults feed on molluscs and fish.

8. Siberian Sturgeon: the Ertix River is distributed in Xinjiang, China. It mainly eats chironomid larvae, molluscs, worms, crustaceans and small fish.
