The egg shell is peculiar, and the size and shape vary with different species. The largest 30cm, wide 14cm and high 9cm are the largest eggs of living fish, while the smallest egg length 63mm and wide 37mm. Most kinds of egg shells are rectangular, with extended tendrils in four corners, which are used to wrap around seaweed, stones and other objects for hatching.
