Two-color jasmine is also known as mandarin duck jasmine, five-color jasmine, etc., because it blossoms successively and can see the old names of flowers of different colors on the same plant at the same time, its English name means "yesterday, today, tomorrow". This vividly describes the special changes of its flower color. The floret is dark blue at first, then becomes light purple, and finally becomes white. Let's take a look at the breeding method of two-color jasmine.

Growth habits of bicolor jasmine

Bicolor jasmine is native to Central and South American tropics. It prefers warm, moist and sunny climate, and its cold resistance is not strong. The suitable temperature for growth is 18-30 ℃, not less than 10 ℃. In a semi-overcast and ventilated environment, indoor cultivation should have at least 4 hours of light and blossom and flourish under sufficient sunshine. Resistant to semi-shade, drought, waterlogging and barren. Pot planting in greenhouse in East and North China requires slightly acidic soil with loose substrate and good drainage, and alum fertilizer and water are often supplemented in summer in order to make the leaves green and bright, branches and flowers numerous.

Propagation method of two-color jasmine

1. Sowing: the seeds of bicolor jasmine should be selected before sowing. The selection of seeds is directly related to the success of sowing. After seed selection, disinfection and sprouting should be carried out. After sowing, the substrate should be covered with 2-3 times of the thickness of the seed. Then the sowing matrix can be wet with sprayers and fine-hole flower sprinklers, and then water will be drenched later when the pot soil is slightly dry. After sowing in late autumn, early spring or winter, when you encounter a cold wave and low temperature, you can wrap the flowerpot with plastic film to keep warm and wet.

2. Cuttage: the two-color jasmine softwood cuttings selected the sturdy branches of the same year as cuttings when the plants grew vigorously from late spring to early autumn, and the sturdy branches of the previous year were selected as cuttings after the temperature rose in early spring. Due to the limited conditions, it is difficult to get an ideal cutting substrate for family cutting. it is recommended to use a prepared and sterilized cutting substrate, or medium and coarse river sand, but rinse with clean water several times before use and strengthen management after cutting.

3. Striping: bicolor jasmine can also be propagated by pressing. Select strong branches and peel off the bark from about 15 to 30 centimeters below the top. The width of the peeled wound is about one centimeter, and the depth is limited to just peeling off the skin. Cut a piece of film 10 to 20 centimeters long and 5 centimeters 8 centimeters wide, put some wet garden soil on it, and wrap it around like a wound. The upper and lower ends of the film are tightly bound, bulge in the middle, and take root after about four to six weeks.

Culture method of two-color jasmine

1. Soil: two-color jasmine likes the slightly acidic soil with good drainage and permeability, and the slightly acidic soil which is loose, fertile, breathable, well drained and rich in humus is suitable. It is generally made of 1 part of rotten leaf soil, 1 part of garden soil, 1 part of sawdust or cinder ash, or 2 parts of garden soil, 1 part of cinder ash and a small amount of cake cinder. Do not use alkaline soil.

2. Lighting: bicolor jasmine likes light, semi-shade and well-ventilated environment, and is not resistant to strong light and wind. It is cultivated in a sunny shelter before and after Qingming Festival. Put it in a cool and ventilated place or under a shade of 50% shade in summer to prevent direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves are easy to yellowing and scorching.

3. Watering: two-color jasmine likes wetting and is not resistant to waterlogging. Daily watering should grasp the principle of "dry and wet". The temperature is high and the air is dry in summer. in addition to watering the basin soil, spray the foliar surface with clean water for 2 or 3 times a day and sprinkle water around it to increase air humidity and reduce air temperature. Watering should be controlled in winter to keep the basin soil dry. Prevent the accumulation of water in the basin during the rainy season.

4. Fertilization: after each flower fade in the growing season of two-color jasmine, a thin cake fertilizer was applied once, and a liquid fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium was applied 10 days later, and 0.2-0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate was sprayed on the leaf surface combined with watering to promote flower bud differentiation. Secondary thin alum fertilizer and water should be applied during the growing period to prevent the soil from being alkalized and the leaves yellowing. The ratio of water to fertilizer is 9:1 in summer. Before entering the house in November, the same concentration of potassium dihydrogen phosphate should be sprayed twice to improve its cold resistance and be conducive to safe overwintering. Stop fertilizing in winter.

5. Diseases and pests: two-color jasmine has aphid harm in spring, such as poor ventilation, muggy heat, shell insects, red spiders, and occasional leaf spot and powdery mildew. If pests are found, spray with 1000 times of omethoate EC. The disease was controlled by spraying 500 × 800 times of carbendazim or methyl topiramate.

6. Pruning: two-color jasmine should be pruned after flowering to maintain a beautiful plant shape. After each flower fade, cut off the residual flowers in time, and cut off some long branches to promote the germination of more branches, making the tree compact and beautiful, so as to blossom more next month. After the last flower shedding at the end of autumn, heavy pruning was carried out, that is, 2-3 buds were left on each branch, the rest were cut off, and the thin branches, introverted branches, disease and insect branches were cut off, so that they would grow vigorously, have beautiful branches and blossom in the coming spring.

7. Anti-freezing: bicolor jasmine has poor cold resistance and must be cultivated in cold room in winter. Generally enter the room around the middle of November, keep the room temperature above 0 ℃, control watering and keep the basin soil dry, you can survive the winter safely. If we want to make it blossom in winter, we should raise the room temperature to above 15 ℃ at night, give sufficient light, continue to fertilize and water, and we can get what we want.
