Mulberry trees in China are mostly distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and now they are widely cultivated in the north and south. So specifically, what are the requirements for light, temperature, moisture and soil for mulberry growth?

1. Lighting

Mulberry is a positive plant, which needs sufficient light to grow and develop normally. Mulberry garden should adjust the population structure through reasonable planting density, planting form, tree type cultivation and mulberry leaf picking methods, so as to make full use of light energy and obtain high yield of mulberry leaves.

2. Temperature

The suitable temperature range for mulberry growth is 25-37 ℃, and the most suitable temperature is 25-30 ℃. The traditionally cultivated mulberry varieties began to sprout and grow when the temperature rose to more than 12 ℃ in spring, and the leaves began to fall into dormancy when the temperature dropped to 12 ℃ in late autumn. In recent years, the germination period of "agricultural mulberry series" mulberry varieties introduced and cultivated is 10-15 days earlier than that of lake mulberry varieties.

3. Moisture

Mulberry is a leaf plant, which consumes a lot of water. The water needed by mulberry is mainly absorbed from the soil through root hair, and the soil water content suitable for mulberry growth is 70% and 80% of the maximum soil water holding capacity. Dali Prefecture is dry in winter and spring in most years, so mulberry fields should be irrigated timely in spring to meet the water requirements of mulberry trees after entering the growing period. However, in the rainy season, such as mulberry garden stagnant water, it will cause mulberry root anaerobic respiration, physiological drought, long-term stagnant water will cause mulberry growth stop or even death.

4. Air

There should be a certain amount of ventilation in the mulberry garden to meet the requirements of mulberry respiration.

5. Soil

Soil is the basis of mulberry survival, mulberry life activities of water and a variety of nutrients, are basically absorbed from the soil. The mulberry root system is well developed, and the soil layer thickness of the mulberry planting land is required to reach more than 50 cm. The soil texture is better in loam and sandy loam. The red and yellow loam in many areas of Dali Prefecture are suitable for planting mulberry, and mulberry grows well in neutral and acidic soil. The soil ph value most suitable for mulberry growth is 6.5-7.

Soil fertility has a great influence on the growth of mulberry, so it is required that the soil fertility of mulberry land should be above medium fertility.
