Third, how to raise yew?

1. Soil: fertile acid sandy soil is the best

Taxus likes to grow in slightly acidic soil with loose and fertile soil and rich in humus, so when selecting land, try to choose fertile acid sandy soil. Of course, you can also use peat soil, sandy soil, garden soil and other mixed together, apply a small amount of mature organic fertilizer planting.

2. Fertilizer: appropriate amount of fertilizer

The requirement of fertilizer for Taxus mairei is not high. Generally, a small amount of base fertilizer is applied from September to October, and an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer is applied in early spring. Generally speaking, 0.2 jin of organic fertilizer and 0.02 jin of compound fertilizer are suitable for each plant.

3. Lighting: proper shading

Taxus likes shade, so when it comes to summer, it should be properly shaded to avoid direct sunlight, resulting in leaf dehydration. Generally, it can be moved indoors during the day and on the windowsill at night, and a little light can be given appropriately in spring, autumn and winter.

4. Moisture: proper watering

Taxus does not have high requirements for water, high water demand in general growth period and less water demand in dormant period, so watering can be determined according to the degree of leaf upright. In general, water is watered every 5-7 days in spring, 3-5 days in summer, 5-7 days in autumn, and every 7-10 days in winter.

5. Temperature: 20-25 degrees is the best

Taxus likes to be overcast and cold-resistant, and it is generally the most suitable to grow at 20-25 degrees. In winter, minus 30 degrees can also withstand the cold, so you don't need too much warmth. But when it is hot in summer, it should be shaded properly to avoid too strong light and lead to plant dehydration.

6. Diseases and insect pests: control with Bordeaux solution or methyl topiramate solution

During the growth of Taxus, there will be diseases such as root rot and leaf blight, so prevention and control measures should be taken in advance. The root rot can be controlled by dimethoate, and the leaf blight can be controlled by Bordeaux solution. Insect pests can be controlled with methyl topiramate solution.

Generally speaking, the price of yew seedlings has a certain relationship with the market and specifications, so try to inquire in the local market when buying. In addition, if you want the yew to flourish and bear fruit, you need to do a good job in the basic management of light, moisture, temperature, water and fertilizer.
