Abscisic acid is a commonly used plant hormone, which is used in many vegetables and fruits, so how to use abscisic acid? What are the functions of abscisic acid? Let's have a look!

1. Basic introduction of abscisic acid

Abscisic acid is a kind of plant hormone which can cause bud dormancy, leaf shedding and inhibit cell growth and other physiological functions. Because it can promote leaf shedding, abscisic acid is widely distributed in higher plants.

At present, it has realized the industrial fermentation of Botrytis cinerea to produce natural abscisic acid with high purity and high biological activity, so it will be used in agricultural production on a large scale in the future.

Natural abscisic acid is a white crystalline powder, which is easily soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, ethyl acetate and trichloromethane, but insoluble in ether and benzene. Abscisic acid has good stability. When placed at room temperature for two years, the content of effective components is basically unchanged.

2. Usage of abscisic acid

The abscisic acid is mixed with water according to a certain proportion, and the crop leaf surface can be sprayed at a certain time interval. Because the dosage and interval of abscisic acid in different crops are not exactly the same, it needs to be used with reference to the instruction manual.

The general usage is:

Spray the crop leaves with 300-600 kg of water, generally spraying more than 3 times, each time at an interval of 7-10 days.

What are the effects of abscisic acid?

1. Inhibition of growth

It is a strong growth inhibitor, which can inhibit the growth of whole plants or organs in vitro. It inhibits cell division and elongation. It inhibits the elongation and growth of organs such as coleoptile, shoot, root and Hypocotyl.

2. Promote dormancy

The application of abscisic acid to the vigorous branchlets of these woody plants will cause buds to dormancy. Potato dormant buds also contain more abscisic acid. Therefore, potato can be treated with abscisic acid to prolong its dormancy period.

3. Cause stomatal closure

Spraying plant leaves with abscisic acid aqueous solution can close the stomata and reduce the transpiration rate. Therefore, abscisic acid can be used as an antitranspirant. Abscisic acid also inhibits potassium ion and proton pump and inhibits stomatal opening.
