Around November every year, the water temperature is about 10-12 ℃. The toad enters the hibernation period, does not eat or drink, moves slowly, originally is the activity on the dry land, at this time wants to go into the water to spend the winter. The measures of overwintering under water are mainly as follows:

Several ditches are dug in the middle or surrounding areas of the farm before overwintering. The total area of the ditch accounts for 10%-20% of the site area. The water storage in the ditch is 30-100 cm deep, and the north should be deeper. 10 to 30 toads are raised per square meter of water. In the severe winter morning, the ice is broken to facilitate the oxygen to dissolve into the water, so as not to suffocate the underwater toad because of the ice.

Can also spend the winter indoors, can use vats, pots, buckets to add water 20 cm deep, and then put in toads. However, in order to prevent toads from hibernating due to excessive room temperature, it is appropriate to keep the water temperature about 1-8 ℃.

If there are conditions, you can use a plastic greenhouse to survive the winter and keep the temperature in the greenhouse at 1-10 ℃, but you should prevent the temperature in the film from getting too high at noon when the weather is fine, and ventilation should be carried out in time.

No matter outdoor or indoor and greenhouse overwintering, the construction of the pool should prevent water leakage, and regular inspection should be carried out in the management, such as timely replenishment of water leakage. If the water does not leak and the water does not deteriorate, there is no need to change the water throughout the winter.

Before overwintering toads enter the water, spray and disinfect the pool water and toads with 1/10000 bleach solution once to prevent bacteria from invading. As soon as spring comes, when the daily average temperature rises to more than 10 ℃, toads mate and lay eggs in the water. At this time, they use net buckets to fish out the eggs and put them into another pool to hatch. At the same time, overwintering toads also climbed ashore in search of food, and the overwintering was over. When overwintering, we should also prevent water rats, otters and so on from eating toads.
