Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Gekko gecko is a temperature-changing animal, and its body temperature changes with the change of ambient temperature. When the ambient temperature is suitable, the gecko has a strong appetite, an increase in food intake and a faster growth rate; when the temperature decreases, the gecko's body temperature decreases, the activity decreases, the appetite decreases, the appetite is small or not, and the growth rate is fast.

Gekko gecko is a temperature-changing animal, and its body temperature changes with the change of ambient temperature. Suitable environmental temperature, gecko exuberant appetite, increased food intake, faster growth rate; when the temperature decreased, gecko body temperature decreased, activity decreased, appetite decreased, food intake was small or not eaten, growth rate decreased or not long. Temperature changes throughout the year can bring a series of physiological changes to gecko.

Gecko can come out when the temperature is above 12 ℃; when the temperature is below 12 ℃, the metabolism level of gecko decreases greatly, stops activity and feeding, and enters the hibernating state; when the temperature rises to 13 ℃, gecko wakes up from the hibernating state, but does not feed; when the ambient temperature rises to 18 ℃, the activity is frequent and begins to feed. Under the condition of artificial feeding, some people keep the indoor temperature at 20 ℃ in an attempt to break its hibernation state. Gecko can come out and move, but the food intake is very small and the active period is not long, so it is better to let it hibernate, because the activity consumes the material in the body, which is disadvantageous to the reproduction of the next year. Gecko gecko in the high temperature environment, the body temperature rises, due to water loss is easy to cause death.

When the ambient temperature is 26: 30 ℃, the gecko's response is normal, and the respiratory rate is 30: 55 / min. When the ambient temperature reaches 40 ℃, the gecko shows restlessness, opens its mouth and spits out its tongue after 15 minutes. When the ambient temperature rises to 45 ℃, the respiratory frequency increases to 120 beats / min, and begins to flee, finger (toe) roll, loss of crawling ability and adsorption, limb stiffness, tail immobility, upward tilt. The temperature of 45 ℃ lasts for 25 minutes, which can make gecko stop breathing. Gekko gecko likes to be warm and afraid of cold. It is distributed in the north subtropical areas without frost and snow under natural conditions, but it is rarely distributed where the winter temperature is below 0 ℃. Under the condition of artificial feeding, the indoor temperature of overwintering is about 10 ℃, which can survive the winter safely. After observation, it was found that the fat and strong individuals could endure the temperature of about 5 ℃, the thin individuals could stand the temperature of about 8 ℃, and the young gecko froze to death at the temperature of 13 ℃.
