Phlox is a kind of flower variety introduced from abroad and cultivated in Mexico. At present, it is widely distributed in China. The ornamental value of phlox is very high, so it attracts many people's cultivation. However, before planting, most people probably wanted to have a preliminary understanding of its planting techniques.

How to grow phlox

The seeds are small and can be sown on seedling trays using light seeding media. After sowing, cover the soil slightly, often with fine vermiculite, which helps to keep it moist, and spray fungicides to prevent the seedlings from getting sick. The best germination temperature is 20-22 degrees, soil temperature has a great impact on seed germination, and should be doubled. It usually takes 7-14 days to emerge. Northern areas can be sown in early February and flowered after May. A cool climate is needed in summer. In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and in the south, autumn sowing is often adopted due to the hot summer, and the seedlings overwinter above 0 degrees, so that they can bloom in spring.

Cultivation methods and precautions of phlox

1. Breeding methods:

1. Soil. Disinfect the soil before preparing it for planting. Conditions can be sifted through the soil, larger clods, stones cleaned up, and then reconfigured soil. The pot soil planted is exposed to sunlight, or potassium permanganate, formalin, dexone, etc. are mixed into an appropriate proportion of aqueous solution to spray, and can be used after drying.

2. Germination. It is best to treat the seeds before planting to improve the germination rate of the seeds. The easiest way is to soak in warm water for 6 to 8 hours, you can add some rooting powder, and then

3. Sowing. After the seeds are treated, spread them evenly on the soil surface, not too densely, so as not to affect the germination rate of seeds. Then cover the soil surface with a layer of 3 mm sandy soil. Do not cover it with clods, which are too heavy. Drain and cover with plastic wrap to keep moisture in. Move to the sun can be, if you see the plastic film covered with water vapor, you can open the ventilation, about 7 to 10 days to germinate.

II. Precautions:

1. Phlox seedlings are not tolerant to transplanting. Do not toss back and forth after growing seedlings by sowing method. The roots of seedlings are stable after 4 weeks of growth and can be transplanted into pots. At the beginning, you can choose a small pot with a forehead of about 10 cm. After the seedlings grow up, you can change the big pot.

2, phlox grows well in a sunny environment, as long as it is pruned in time, the plant type is compact and beautiful, but if it lacks sunlight, it may cause excessive growth, and it is possible to grow into a "towering tree".

How to maintain phlox after planting

1, most of the wildflowers are bright to the point of sunlight on the type, so rest assured that the light, growth period to ensure adequate sunshine, of course, in a semi-shady environment can also grow.

2, phlox is not resistant to high temperature, summer temperature above 35℃, there will be obvious yellow leaf phenomenon, to appropriate shade, avoid direct sunlight, watering cooling. Phlox is cold-resistant and can winter outdoors, but in some areas the winter temperature is too low, so it is recommended to winter indoors.

How to trim phlox

1. Spring is the best time for pruning. In spring, the temperature warms up, the new shoots sprout, and the branches and leaves can be truncated. Take the well-positioned and robust branches as reserve branches and cut off all other branches. This vacation is mainly to control the height of the plant, to ensure that the plant type is perfect, flowers and leaves are luxuriant. Note that nutrients should be supplemented in time after the short cut, and a thin liquid fertilizer should be applied after two weeks. After fertilization, water in time and loosen the soil properly to ensure good permeability of the soil. As a result, phlox flowers from summer to autumn.

2. In autumn, flowers wither and fruits are harvested. Phlox flowering generally begins in August, transplantation continues in early October, so after flowering, flowering branches should be cut off in time to reduce nutrient consumption and ensure flowering in the next year. If it is not pruned in time and let it fall naturally, it may lead to insufficient nutrition of plants and even induce diseases and insect pests.

The planting method of phlox is actually not difficult. Before planting, you need to do a good job of site selection and soil ratio, and then choose a suitable time to plant. After planting, it needs to strengthen maintenance, and timely shading and pruning are the inevitable conditions to ensure its rise.
