I. the difference between incense wood and incense

Incense refers to the incense formed by the incense tree, which is the balsam formed by the fungus infection, secretion and combination, and deposited for many years. Aristolochia mandshurica is a kind of wood, that is, the host of incense, is a general tree of Daphne. Some of these trees are directly called Chenxiang trees, and some are called Wind trees.

Second, the conditions for the formation of incense.

Aristolochia mandshurica is actually the alienation of sap of four specific families and genera of Olive, Lauraceae, Daphne and Euphorbiaceae. To produce the effect of fragrance, there must be the following conditions.

First, there are four specific families and genera of Olive, Lauraceae, Daphneaceae and Euphorbiaceae.

Second, there are mature and well-developed resin glands in the trunk (usually more than 30 years old).

Third, there were wounds in the tree that reached as deep as the xylem of the trunk, which may have been caused by knives and axes, natural forces or insect ants; if the wound healed quickly, it would not bear incense.

Fourth, the trunk wound needs to be infected by mold, and the tissue around the wound begins to fester because of infection, so the sap in the woody part is stimulated and alienated into plaster-like caking, blocking the surrounding tissue to prevent the ulceration from worsening and spreading. From the microscopic observation of the cross section of Chenxiang, it can be clearly seen that the resin is secreted from the xylem vessel and then polymerized into greasy incense.

Fifth, in the formation of incense, due to different tree species, different natural environment and different mold stimulation, there are actually many different odor changes, these changes from a chemical point of view, they are: geraniol, acetic acid balsam, and: phosphoaminobenzoic acid balsam, benzoate balsam, isobutyrate balsam, n-butyric acid balsam, cinnamate balsam.

The natural incense will not fade or remove oil. If you get it, there will be fade or obvious grease on the hand, then you can judge that it is artificially processed.
