On December 18, the fourth International Sea Rice Forum was held in Sanya, Hainan, at which it was revealed that China's Yuan Longping Sea Rice team produced more than 400 kilograms per mu. What is sea rice? How did you grow it?

First, what is rice in sea water?

Seawater rice, also known as saline-alkali tolerant rice, is a special kind of rice growing in coastal shoals and other saline-alkali land, which tastes not very good. However, it is not genetically modified rice. It originated at the seaside of Yanchao Village, Chengyue Town, Suixi County, and is a land that has been soaked in sea water for a short time. Therefore, the growth place of this kind of rice is saline-alkali land, which is not afraid of short-term immersion in sea water, so it is different from ordinary rice. It is called sea rice.

Second, how to grow sea rice with a yield of 400 kg per mu?

1. Seed selection and seed treatment

The main results are as follows: (1) seed selection: the planting conditions of sea rice are relatively harsh. generally, some varieties with strong saline-alkali resistance, waterlogging resistance, strong tillering ability and large panicle are selected before planting, and the appearance should be full and the grain shape should be neat.

(2) treatment of seeds: soak the selected seeds in tap water for 2-3 days, wait for 80% of the seeds to grow 3mm buds, and the roots grow to about 5mm.

2. Sowing seeds

(1) sowing time: sow seeds on cloudy and rainy days and try not to plant them when the temperature is very high.

(2) sowing method: the plant of sea rice grows luxuriantly, and it should be shallow, straight, evenly and reasonably close planted in saline-alkali soil as far as possible. The planting density is 25cm × 25cm, with 1-2 seedlings per hole.

3. Management technology after sowing.

(1) Seedling replacement: when it is found that there is a lack of seedlings, it should be made up immediately to avoid wasting land. In addition, in view of the high salt content in coastal tidal flat reclamation areas and the relatively slow growth of rice, close planting must be adhered to. The planting density is 20cm × 13.3cm, with 3-4 seedlings per hole.

(2) rational irrigation: sea rice is a water-loving food plant, which can not be irrigated on the beach, and sea water will be replaced regularly. However, in saline-alkali land or ordinary land, reasonable irrigation of sea rice is necessary.

Third, how is the rice in sea water?

Li Xinlan, a member of the food safety evaluation expert of the China Health Association, told reporters that the ph value of rice cooked with sea rice is about 8.8 and has a strong ability to enrich in sea water. The red color is mainly selenium, which is 7.2 times higher than that of ordinary rice. Tested by the authoritative department, the amino acid content of "Haidao 86" rice is 4.71 times higher than that of ordinary white rice, which has high nutritional value. Some unique growth characteristics of sea rice are of great benefit to the resource-saving green agricultural production.

Relevant experts say that seawater rice does not apply fertilizer or pesticides, and if this gene can be used in existing cultivated rice, it will also make a great contribution to the protection of our ecological environment.

As for taste, according to local farmers and experts who have taken part in the trial of seawater rice, seawater rice tastes sweeter than ordinary rice and does not have the salty taste of sea water.

Related news:

On December 18, the reporter learned from the fourth International Sea Rice Forum held in Sanya, Hainan that the average yield per mu of China's saline-alkali sea-tolerant rice planting base exceeded 400 kg.

The sea rice research team, headed by Yuan Longping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has set up nine regional experimental planting bases in Shandong, Zhejiang and other provinces, covering nearly 20,000 mu of demonstration planting area.

The area of saline-alkali land in China is more than 1 billion mu. Yuan Longping pointed out that the research on sea rice in China has reached the leading level in the world, and the various types and rich land resources are conducive to the research on the cultivation of sea rice under various conditions. China also has the heterosis of hybrid rice, and it also shows higher yield in rice planting in saline-alkali soil through improvement and breeding. The research team is also exploring the use of conventional breeding and molecular breeding techniques to improve the resistance of sea rice to major rice diseases such as rice blast and blight.

In 2017, the national seawater rice regional trial was jointly conducted by Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, Qingdao Sea Rice Research Center and other units for the first time. At that time, more than 10 saline-alkali tolerant rice varieties were approved. Among the 40 saline-alkali tolerant rice varieties in three groups in 2018, 28 passed the test. It is expected that a series of saline-alkali tolerant rice varieties will be approved by 2020 and can be popularized in saline-alkali soil in China.
