Chinese chestnut is a kind of nut unique to our country. It tastes delicious and tastes crisp. In addition to eating fresh food, you can also stew, stew, etc., rich in a certain nutritional value. Chinese chestnut is planted all over our country. When will Chinese chestnut be harvested? What are the storage methods?

When will Chinese chestnut be harvested?

Judging from the maturity of chestnut, it is the best harvest time when the chestnut bud is cracked naturally.

Chestnut harvest should avoid rainy days, early sunny after rain or morning dew before dry period, otherwise the harvested chestnut is easy to rot. In production, it is best to concentrate on harvesting after several sunny days in a row, so that the harvested chestnuts have bright skin color, full individual, low water content, good quality, non-perishable and resistant to storage and transportation.

Chestnut cracking more than 40%, shake off the chestnut canopy with a bamboo pole, pick it up and pile it in the shade, spray a small amount of water on each layer of 20 cm to increase the humidity in the heap. The thickness of the pile is not more than 80 cm. After 5-7 days, pick up the chestnut and be careful not to damage the finish of the pericarp. For convenience and quickness, some chestnut farmers hit the puffy bud with wooden sticks after cracking, seriously damaging the wax luster of the pericarp, and even scratches, which will greatly reduce the grade of the fruit.

If the chestnut is harvested early, the material accumulation of the chestnut fruit is insufficient, the water content is large, the fruit flavor is poor, and it is not resistant to storage, so it should be harvested when more than half of the chestnut canopy is cracked.

In the case of more water loss, the sugar content in the fruit will be increased and the life activity will be restricted, which will aggravate the loss of rotten fruit, and the longer the time of air drying, the greater the loss, so it should be stored in time after harvest to prevent the loss of water and cause the loss of rotten fruit.

Second, what are the storage methods of Chinese chestnut?

1. Refrigerator storage. Take half a basin of cold boiled water, add 1 tablespoon of salt, then soak the chestnut for 3-5 minutes for simple sterilization. After soaking, rinse with cold boiled water without salt, spread it out in a container and dry for 1 or 2 days. When the chestnut makes a dry sound when shaking, it can be packed in a plastic bag and tightly packed into the freezer for storage. This method emphasizes plastic bags rather than cloth bags because the refrigerator absorbs all the water in the chestnut, making it dry, hard and tasteless. This method can store Chinese chestnut for more than a month, and the processed chestnut has a sweet and crisp meat and a unique flavor when eaten raw.

2. The cloth bag is air-dried. Spread the fresh chestnut in a container, dry it in a cool and ventilated place for 2 to 3 days, and then put it into a cloth bag with good air permeability, never use a plastic bag. Hang in a cool and ventilated place and shake and hit once or twice a day. The chestnut can be stored for as long as 4 months by this method.

3. Sand burial

This method is suitable for the storage of large quantities of Chinese chestnut. The practice is to dry the harvested chestnut for 1 or 2 days, then bury it deeply in the sand, compacting and airtight. This method can be preserved for 2 to 3 months and tastes like fresh.
