Recently, it has been reported that African locusts are rapidly migrating and breeding in eastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the border between India and Pakistan. Will the plague of locusts in Africa affect our country? What are the prevention and control methods?

Will the plague of locusts in Africa have an impact on China?

The impact of locust plague on agrochemical industry is mainly reflected in two levels: one is that locusts need to drive the growth of demand for pesticides, and the other is that the shortage of food supply leads to a rebound in crop prices, which in turn drives up pesticide sales and prices. This round of locust plague has not passed through the major grain producing areas of the world and will not cause a global food crisis.

Experts say that a large number of adults of desert locusts have begun to land and lay eggs in countries such as Pakistan, and the ability of locusts to migrate will decline significantly after then. in addition, limited by the topography of China's border areas with Pakistan and India, it is very difficult for locusts to cross cold areas at high elevations, so it basically has no impact on our country, and there is no need to worry too much.

2. What are the prevention and control methods of locust plague

1. Environmental protection

Natural factors are the main factors in the occurrence of locust plague, but it is undeniable that there are a considerable number of human factors. Locusts must lay eggs on land with less than 50% vegetation coverage. if a place has beautiful scenery and no bare land, locusts cannot reproduce. At present, some places do not have a strong ecological awareness, and some simply think that controlling pollution is to protect the environment, while they do not pay attention to improving the vegetation, soil and microclimate in locust areas because they do not see benefits in the short term. Therefore, in order to fundamentally control the plague of locusts, we should pay great attention to the protection of the ecological environment.

2. Chemical control

For the prevention and control of locust plague, it is recommended that corresponding pesticides with high efficiency, low toxicity and low residue, such as 5% Regent suspension, should be sprayed with 20ml / mu, 30ml / mu, 50ml / mu and 60kg / mu. Can also be found in locusts (locusts nymph) within 10 days, with trichlorfon powder on bamboo, weeds, or with dichlorvos smoke agent fumigation. After application, the monitoring should be strengthened, the control effect should be checked quickly within a week, and the areas with missed treatment and poor control effect should be replenished once in time. The method of entrapment can also be used to cut the straw into four or five inches long, put it in 50 kg of human urine, add 50% wettable trichlorfon 0.05-0.1 kg solution, immerse for 8 hours, and scatter it in many locusts on a sunny morning.

At present, the most effective way to kill locusts is to spray pesticides by aircraft. this method has high insecticidal rate and wide killing range, but the cost is high, and the control method based on chemical control can only meet temporary needs and can not guarantee long-term stability.

3. Prevention and control of natural enemies

In the long run, in order to effectively control the plague of locusts, we must focus on ecological construction and implement the combination of plant protection, biological protection, resource protection and environmental protection. In particular, it is necessary to ensure biological diversity and protect the natural enemies of locusts. According to statistics, there are 68 species of natural enemies of locusts in China, including birds, amphibians, reptiles and so on, which play an important role in controlling the number of locusts.

The majority of farmers should try their best to protect farmland spiders to prevent locusts from happening. The specific approach is: do not burn the straw casually after harvest, but put it in the field to create a good "living environment" for spiders; another way is to concentrate and protect the found spider oocysts in a safe place before and after harvest.

If the spread of locusts is not controlled, the food security of a considerable number of people will be threatened, so the editor suggests that we should do a good job in biological control and protect the environment is also to protect our own interests.
