As the saying goes, "an apple a day keeps disease away from me." apples have high nutritional value, are rich in minerals and vitamins, and are rich in calcium, which helps to metabolize excess salt in the body. So, how do you grow apples? How to manage it?

First, how to grow apples?

1. Reproduction

Commonly used grafting propagation, rootstocks have Arbor rootstocks and dwarfing rootstocks. Qiaohua rootstock has Liriodendron seed, Xifu begonia, bauhinia and so on, dwarfing rootstock mainly introduced British varieties. Adopt wide row close planting, line to the north and south. The soil was planted before freezing in autumn and winter in the south and thawed in spring in the north.

2. Planting

Apples should be cultivated in places with good drainage, in hills and mountainous areas on leeward and sunny slopes, and choose neutral-slightly acidic soil.

3. Planting density

The common type apple of Qiao rootstock was planted with 27044 trees per mu, and the row spacing was 340m × 5m 6m. The dwarfing interstock varieties were planted with 40 × 66 plants per mu, and the row spacing was 2.5 × 4 × 5 meters.

Second, how to manage apple planting?

1. Shaping and pruning

Young trees should pay attention to the opening angle, cut the central stem and extended branches properly, cut and put other branches that do not affect the shape of the tree, remove the overdense developing branches and competitive branches in time, keep the inner chamber full of light, and pay attention to the shortening and retraction of the fruiting branches.

2. Rational allocation of pollination trees.

Because the seed setting rate of self-pollination of apple is very low, pollination trees must be allocated reasonably when establishing the garden. Golden Crown, Wang Lin, Hongxing, Jinqing and World one can all be used as pollination trees when planting common apples. Short-branch apple varieties should be short-branch varieties Jin Dusheng, Xinhongxing, Yanhong, Chaohong and Shouhong as pollination varieties. In the case of close planting, the configuration of pollination trees is better among plants. generally, one pollination tree is configured for every 4 to 5 trees. If it is an inter-row configuration, there should be a row of pollination trees every 4 to 5 rows, and the proportion of pollination trees should be about 15% and 20%.

3. Artificial pollination and fruit thinning

If the apple depends on self-flowering, its fruit setting rate is very low, so it needs artificial pollination, even if there are pollination trees. After fruit setting, the fruit should be thinned strictly according to the requirement of branch-fruit ratio at 5:1, leaving only a single fruit in the center, so as to prevent the load from being too high, affecting the tree potential and fruit quality.

4. Pay attention to cold prevention

The temperature in the northern cultivation area is low, and it is easy to freeze and strip, so when building a garden, we should choose places with good climatic conditions that are conducive to cold protection and frost resistance, and we should also take protective measures such as binding grass and sealing soil piles for young trees.

In addition, it should be noted that apples are temperate fruit trees that like low temperature and dryness. The areas suitable for growing apples in China are: Shaanxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui and other provinces.
