First, what is the breeding method of sweet-scented osmanthus trees?

1. Select the place

It should be planted in spring or autumn, especially on cloudy or rainy days. Choose in a well-ventilated, well-drained and warm place with sufficient light or semi-overcast environment. Transplanting should play a good soil ball to ensure the survival rate. Planting soil is required to be acidic and avoid alkaline soil.

2. Sowing seeds

The fruit of sweet-scented osmanthus usually matures from April to May. After harvest, the fruit is drenched with water, the pulp is removed, the seeds are dried naturally in a cool place, and stored in mixed sand. After sand storage, they can be sowed in autumn or spring. Before sowing, the ground should be well prepared, and enough basic fertilizer should be applied. It can also be sowed in the indoor seedbed. When sowing, put the seed navel on the side to avoid the bending of radicle and young stem, which will affect the growth of seedlings in the future.

3. Watering and fertilization

Before planting, the tree hole should be mixed with herbal ash and organic fertilizer, and watered once after planting. Keep the soil moist and do not water the soil before the new technology is issued. Generally, nitrogen fertilizer is applied once in spring and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is applied once in summer to make flowers bloom and flourish. Overwintering organic fertilizer is applied once before winter, mainly rotten cake fertilizer and barnyard manure. Avoid thick fat, especially faeces and urine.

4. Shaping and pruning

Depending on the tree, set the large frame according to the posture of the tree, and remove other gourd tillers, overdense branches, overgrown branches, cross branches, diseased and weak branches to make it ventilated and transparent. For those who are strong in tree strength and weak in tree strength, the upper branch can be cut short by 1 × 3 to make the whole tree strong, and at the same time, the wound can be protected by applying healing and anticorrosive film at the pruning mouth.

5. Disease and pest control

Sweet-scented osmanthus brown spot, sweet-scented osmanthus blight and sweet-scented osmanthus anthracnose are common leaf diseases of sweet-scented osmanthus. These diseases can cause early defoliation, weaken plant growth and reduce flower yield and ornamental value of sweet-scented osmanthus.

Second, what matters needing attention are there in the cultivation of sweet-scented osmanthus trees?

1. Light temperature

It can be cultivated in open field to survive the winter in the south of the Yellow River basin. The potted plant should be moved indoors in winter and placed in a sunny place to fully accept direct sunlight. Keep it above 5 ℃ at room temperature, but not more than 10 ℃. After sprouting in April of the following year, it was moved to the outdoors, first maintained in the leeward to the sun, and then gradually moved to a ventilated sunny or semi-overcast environment after stable growth, and then carried out normal management. Lack of light during the growing period affected flower bud differentiation.

2. Timely transplanting

The annual seedlings of Osmanthus fragrans were 20cm high and 30cm high, and were transplanted in the early spring of the following year. When the height of 2-year-old seedlings is about 60 cm and that of 3-year-old seedlings is about 1 m, retransplantation is required. When it is used as a shade tree or trunk road tree, it is generally required to be cultivated for 8 years, with a height of 2 meters and a diameter of 8 centimeters, which is beneficial to the maintenance and management after planting.

Sweet-scented osmanthus trees are not only beautiful and evergreen, but their flowers also have a refreshing fragrance, so you might as well plant one or two in your own yard.
