How to grow mint? Have you ever planted it? If you want to plant, let's learn about it. You can also learn about the four peppermint varieties, what kind of characteristics they have!

Peppermint is a very good plant, if you want to start the cultivation of vanilla, afraid of the initial care of poor setbacks, peppermint is definitely the first choice. Peppermint water demand is quite high, in hot weather, almost once or twice a day watering (in principle, the soil is dry and then watered!)

In terms of sun exposure, peppermint likes higher luminosity, and if you find that your mint stem becomes thinner, the new leaves become smaller, and the distance between nodes becomes longer, then most of them are caused by lack of light.

In terms of fertilizer demand, in the vigorous growth season (mint grows vigorously almost all the year round), the application of organic fertilizer can accelerate the growth rate of peppermint (without fertilization, the growth rate will be slower). Peppermint is resistant to fertilizer, and when cultivated in a five-inch pot, the amount of organic fertilizer used is about one handful (grab one with your hands). Forgive me for using an unscientific unit.)

Peppermint needs to be trimmed regularly in order to grow beautifully, so don't be afraid that it will be a pity if the mint is cut. Mint cut can be used to make tea. Mint tea brewed into ice in summer can reduce anger and is a great drink. The production method is to boil the water and turn off the fire, add fresh mint leaves, cover until the water is cool, then filter and ice into the refrigerator. Friends who like the sweeter taste can add honey or rock sugar, or add stevia leaves to cook together.

Peppermint belongs to the family Labiatae and has many kinds. Due to artificial or natural hybridization, there are more than 500 varieties of peppermint. In Taipei, it is often seen that about 10 varieties are sold in the flower market. The smell and appearance will vary from variety to breed, which are described one by one below.

Dutch mint: the most common mint in the flower market, with deep-grained leaves, smells like green arrow gum and gives off a natural aroma when cultivated. It is very suitable for serving food and is often used in dessert dishes.

Chocolate mint: it doesn't taste chocolate, but it smells a little sweet and tastes cooler than Dutch mint. It's a great mint for making tea. The veins and stems of leaves are often chocolate-colored, but the chocolate color often becomes lighter when there is insufficient light or too much fertilizer.

Apple mint / pineapple mint: the names of these two varieties are confused in the flower market, basically only in the presence or absence of spots, pineapple mint with spots and apple mint without spots. Whether it is apple mint or pineapple mint, the smell is light apple fragrance, tea drinking only fragrance, no cool taste. The soft fluff of leaves is an important feature of this variety.

Julia sweet mint: it is a kind of mint with a cool smell. If the aroma of Dutch mint is the taste of green arrow gum, then Julia sweet mint can be described as "Extra gum". Although the smell is very cold, it lacks the aroma of mint.
