Last Updated: 2024/09/19, In the past, protected cultivation of fruit trees was mostly used in fruits with high unit price or difficult to control diseases and insect pests, such as vertical cultivation techniques of papaya and muskmelon. This year, Yilan also launched kumquat cultivated in a simple net room. After more than 2 years of field investigation and evaluation, Hualien District agricultural improvement farm was developed.

In the past, protected cultivation of fruit trees was mostly used in fruits with high unit price or difficult to control diseases and insect pests, such as vertical cultivation techniques of papaya and muskmelon. This year, Ilan also launched kumquat cultivated in a simple net room. after more than two years of field investigation and evaluation, the agricultural improvement farm in Hualien District found that simple net room cultivation can reduce the impact of diseases and insect pests compared with open-air planting, and its sweetness is 1 to 2 degrees more. it also increased the extra-large fruit and large fruit by 10% to 30%.

The proportion of kumquat fresh food increased, and Ilan, the important production area, took the lead in running.

According to 2016 statistics, of the 257 hectares of kumquat planted in Taiwan, 234 hectares are in Ilan, accounting for 90% of the total. Li Jianying, an assistant researcher at the Lanyang branch of Hua Gaichang, points out that the cultivation of kumquat in Ilan has been recorded since the Qing Dynasty, because the pulp of kumquat is sour and the skin is sweet, so it is very suitable for processing products such as golden jujube cream or candied fruit, attracting many processing plants to gather and form a clustering effect.

Li Jianying says that in the past, farmers planted kumquat mostly to sell to processing plants, but health awareness has risen in recent years. Kumquat is easy to eat because it can be eaten with skin, and it is rich in vitamin C and flavonoids. The market demand for fresh fruit is gradually expanding.

"Nine years ago, Chengdu was handed over to the processing plant, and in the past two years, up to 4% of Chengdu is fresh fruit. Li Jianying explained that as the demand for fresh food increases, so does the price. The retail price of fresh kumquat in 2012 is 100 yuan per jin, and it has reached more than 50 yuan per jin this year, which has doubled in the past five years.

The demand for fresh food has increased, and more attention has been paid to the cultivation of kumquat. In 2016, the Agriculture and Food Administration and the government of Ilan County subsidized the provision of facilities for kumquat cultivation and pest management. A demonstration area of "protected kumquat cultivation" was set up in Jiaoxi, the main producing area of kumquat, and a total of six net rooms were set up by 2017.

The indoor fruit-bearing situation of the golden citrus net. The net room can avoid insects and rain, and the fruit of kumquat is good.

"Kumquat is most afraid of fruit flies to sting. Hua Gaochang points out that the fruit fly is the most serious pest of kumquat, and the kumquat bitten by fruit fly has no unusual appearance at first, and will begin to rot after two or three days, seriously affecting the sale of kumquat fresh fruit.

After more than two years of field investigation and evaluation, it is found that the simple net room cultivation has a good pest control effect, which can almost completely isolate large pests such as fruit flies, but also because the net room can isolate Rain Water, which is drier than the open air environment, and the incidence of disease is greatly reduced. It can also prevent summer typhoons from damaging branches and causing fruit drop in small fruit stage. However, Li Chien-ying also points out that the warm and dry nature of the net room increases the harm of small insects such as spider mites (commonly known as red spiders), but it can still be suppressed through management. The sweetness of kumquat cultivated in the net room is 1 to 2 degrees more. although the yield is slightly reduced by 10% due to the height of the short branches in the net room, compared with the general kumquat, it is mostly medium and small fruits, and the extra large fruit and large fruit can be increased by 10% to 30%.

The fruit fly is the most serious pest of kumquat. The initial appearance of kumquat bitten by fruit fly is not unusual, and it will begin to rot after 2 or 3 days.

The access road attaches importance to quality, and the cultivation price in the net room is still in short supply.

Hua Gengchang pointed out that because the six net rooms currently built are located in the east, the construction intensity must be increased in order to reduce the damage caused by typhoons. At present, the average cost of setting up one point of land is more than 400,000. If you calculate that it can be balanced over three years, the average cost of one minute of land per year is 140000 more, and the annual harvest of one point of land is about 1400 kilograms, which is an extra cost of 1400 yuan per kilogram.

Although the cost burden of kumquat cultivated in the net room is great, because of its good quality and large fresh food market, the demand is far greater than the supply. "Quanlian alone has signed a contract of 20 tons a year, which can supply less than half of it. Li Chien-ying points out that at present, the Kumquat Cooperative has held talks with some of the more high-end operators, which can be said to be very popular.

Li Jianying added that at present, the six net rooms occupy an area of about 3 hectares, accounting for less than 1% of the total planting area of kumquat. In the past two years, the Agriculture and Food Administration subsidized half of the cost of facilities, and the Ilan county government also increased the subsidy, but this year's subsidy has not yet been announced, and it is expected to increase the output of high-quality kumquat by 5 to 10 hectares in the next three years.
