Introduction of a new excellent and high yield rice variety Tainan 11, which has the characteristics of lodging resistance.

The Chiayi branch field is a rice research field specializing in rice breeding and cultivation technology improvement. The new rice strain Nanjingyu 58 was reviewed by nine rice experts and scholars, including the Agriculture and Food Department of the Council of Agriculture and Food, including the Agriculture and Food Department, National Taiwan University, Chung Hsing University, Chiayi University and Asia-Pacific Food and Fertilizer Technology Center, on the morning of November 4. It was unanimously approved to be named "Tainan 11" and began to breed and promote.

In recent years, good quality rice varieties Taijing 2, Taijing 8 and Taijing 17 have been bred in this field. In order to further obtain better rice quality and resistance to diseases and insect pests, breeding experiments were carried out in 1986 with Taijingyu 69223, which has good appearance, disease resistance and high yield, and Taijing 16, which has good taste, disease resistance and high yield. The newly bred "Tainan 11" has the following excellent characteristics:

1. The appearance of rice grain is good, the rate of intact rice is high and the taste is good: Tainan 11 has good transparency, less white heart and abdomen, and high rate of intact rice; its taste in the first stage is slightly better than that of Taibian 9, a recommended variety of good quality rice, and it is the same in the second stage; and after 4 months of storage, the rice taste of Tainan 11 is the same as that of Taipean 9.

Second, high yield and wide adaptability: according to the results of the regional trial of Tainan 11 in 6 regions in China, the average rice yield per hectare was 7497 kg in the first stage and 5843 kg in the second stage, which increased by 6.0% and 5.2% respectively compared with the high-yielding control variety Tainong 67.

Third, it is resistant to rice fever and planthopper diseases and insect pests: this new variety is moderately resistant to leaf and panicle rice fever, but it is unstable in Huadong area, so special attention should be paid to control. Moderate resistance to brown planthopper, spotted planthopper and white-backed planthopper.

Fourth, the threshing rate is relatively low: the threshing rate of the first and second stages of this variety is 5% and 12% lower than that of Tainong 67, respectively, which can reduce the loss of shedding by mechanical harvesting.

Fifth, the lodging resistance is good: Tainan No. 11 high school and so on, its lodging resistance has been tested, the first stage is upright, the second stage is up to slope, which is stronger than Tainong 67, which can ensure rice yield and rice quality, and is suitable for mechanical harvest.
