How to cultivate white orchids, culture methods and matters needing attention of white orchids
White orchids belong to Magnoliaceae. Produced in the Philippines and Indonesia and other countries. Magnolia has been introduced to Shexian County of our province for nearly 70 years. The price of Magnolia is higher because it is more difficult to breed and more laborious to manage. The cultivation of Magnolia in our province often uses large pots or vats. The plant height of Bailan is 3 to 6 feet, and the highest one can reach more than one foot. Prynne blossoms in summer. The flowers are white and fragrant. Let's talk about the breeding, management and harvesting methods of Magnolia.
First, the reproduction of Magnolia. The propagation of Magnolia can be reproduced by means of bonding and striping.
Rely on the connection method. Purple magnolia is generally used as a rootstock to connect with Magnolia. Every year during the rainy season, cut off the sturdy branches and cut them in a small flowerpot to survive. After the living tree, it is used to connect it in the second year. The branches of Magnolia are also cut directly on the seedbed and planted in a small flowerpot after waiting for a living plant to be used for grafting. Before joining, select the sturdy branches of Magnolia, cut off the 1.5-inch skin to the xylem with a knife, and then cut off the equal-length incision of the purple magnolia rootstock in the small flowerpot, so that the cambium and magnolia rootstocks are well aligned and tight. tie it up with a rope so that it won't be blown and loosened by the wind. After about two months, the mother plant was cut off.
The striping method. In general, during the rainy season, the strong and tender branches of Bailan are selected, the parts that need to be pressed are cut and buried in another flowerpot, pay attention to watering management, and cut them 3 months later to form a new Bailan single plant. The outer layer of the branches of Magnolia can also be 3-4 minutes wide (do not hurt the cambium), use opposite bamboo tubes or tile pots to surround the ring, fill with fertile soil and water plants, tie up the rope for external use, pay attention to regular watering, keep the tube moist, take root after 2 ~ 3 months, and cut off the mother plant after the roots are developed.
To check whether the rootstock is connected with the Magnolia or whether the strips survive, you can take the water cut-off test, that is, stop watering the original Magnolia mother plant for a few days to make it dry. When the leaves of Magnolia are soft and bright, water the small flowerpot of the rootstock. If the branches grafted in the small flowerpot can quickly resume growth, but the Magnolia mother plant is still in a dry state, it is proved that it has been alive. If the rootstock in the small pot and the mother plant in the large pot are still dry, it proves that there is no live. Those who are not alive cannot be cut off from the mother plant.
Second, the management of Prynne. Three links should be mastered.
First, watering and fertilizing. Magnolia plants are tall and require a lot of water, so each watering should be thoroughly watered, but the excess water must be discharged out of the basin quickly after watering, otherwise the stagnant water in the basin will cause rotten roots, stems and leaves wither, and even death. It is usually watered every morning and evening in summer, at noon every other day in spring and autumn, and once a week in indoor overwintering. Water for watering flowers should be used in ditches and ponds and rivers. If tap water is used, the water must be stored for one or two days to volatilize the chlorine used for disinfection in the water, so as not to affect plant growth.
Whether the fertilization of Magnolia is appropriate or not has a great relationship with the yield and quality of Magnolia. Therefore, in addition to the application of rotten manure, we should also apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Usually after the spring is warm, the flowerpot is moved out of the room, and the rotten fertilizer is applied every 10 days or so. Before the barracks, quick-acting liquid fertilizer is applied, and dung water is watered every three or four days at full bloom. Fertilization should not be too much to prevent rotten roots and branches from growing. After the flowerpot is moved indoors for overwintering, it can no longer be fertilized.
The second is to build a shade shed and pick old leaves. Blanc prefers a warm, humid climate and a well-ventilated environment. Therefore, it is necessary to build a shade shed in summer to prevent the hot sun from shining at noon. Magnolia should remove the old leaves before leaving the room, leaving only a few leaves at the top of the branches to promote the germination of new branches. After each flower picking, the leaves should be removed properly in order to inhibit the growth of the tree potential and facilitate the breeding of flower buds.
The third is to prevent the cold and survive the winter. The brandy is afraid of the cold, the time of entering the room is earlier in winter, and it is a little later in spring, generally moving to the outdoors after the final frost or Grain Rain. When it is severe cold in winter, the indoor temperature should be increased to more than 10 ℃, otherwise, it will be vulnerable to freezing injury.
Third, the harvest of Prynne. After taking the job, Prynne can receive a small amount of flowers in three years. With the increase of tree age, the yield increases year by year. Magnolia blossoms almost all the year round, with the highest output in June and July, accounting for about 70% of the total annual output, about 20% in August and September, and about 10% in the rest of the month. Picking usually takes place in the morning, when the bracts of the green flowers fall off, the flowers will not bloom, and the fragrance of the flowers is the strongest.
