The Council of Agriculture announced today (25) that the irrigated areas of Zengwen Reservoir, Wushantou Reservoir and Baihe Reservoir in Jiannan area will be closed and fallow for the first phase of rice cultivation next year, and subsidies will be given to farmers and rice-related industries. Other counties and cities continue to observe that the water situation in the eastern and Gaoping areas is optimistic; in mid-December and late December, respectively, whether the first phase of rice cultivation in the central region and Taozhu Miao area will be provided for irrigation will be announced.

Jiannan Plain also stopped irrigation in 2004, 2010 and 2015, when the harvest area of japonica rice in the first phase of the country decreased slightly by 10%, and more farmers switched to green manure crops. As for the supporting measures to be fallow next year, some farmers in Jiannan said that the first phase of rice cultivation is the main source of income for a year, and compensation is more or less helpful to farmers, but they hope that the money will reach the tillers. On the other hand, the tillers said that in addition to subsidies, they also hope that agricultural machinery loans can reduce interest rates or postpone repayments.
