Rose is a kind of flower plant which is very easy to survive by cutting, and the cutting work is generally carried out in spring and autumn. Relatively speaking, spring cutting has more advantages, because the weather will gradually get warmer next, and the rose prefers a warm environment. However, in the autumn cutting rose, how to survive the winter safely in the following winter is usually a difficult problem for us.

The potted rose seedlings bred by cutting in autumn are often not strong enough to survive the winter safely and smoothly when they are placed in the outdoor environment. Therefore, we need to take good care of it and take measures to keep warm and keep cold, so as to ensure that rose cuttings can survive the winter.

First of all, a fact in front of us is that the root system of rose seedlings cultivated by cutting in autumn is still underdeveloped, even relatively immature, and the seedlings are not high, so they are doomed not to rely on their own strength to resist the severe cold. Especially in winter in the north, when you get up early in the morning, you will find that the potted soil of potted rose seedlings is frozen.

The problem we need to solve is to avoid freezing in the potted soil of potted rose seedlings. Although the rose is very hardy, its seedlings are also prone to frost injury because they are too weak. Practice has proved that in order for rose cuttings to survive the winter safely and smoothly, it is usually necessary to meet two points:

First, avoid freezing of basin soil.

As the root system of rose seedlings is very immature and fragile, in order to make it safe to survive the winter, the first thing we need to do is to avoid the freezing of the basin soil, or at least not to let the basin soil be completely frozen into ice blocks, so that its roots are always active.

Second, avoid the cold wind.

For the rose, even when the big seedling is hit by the cold wind in winter, the branches will dry up. Therefore, if it is a potted cuttage, you should avoid being blown by the cold wind. Otherwise, the branches and leaves of the cuttings will die easily.

What we need to do is to prevent the cuttings from being blown by the wind as far as possible, to ensure that the leaves are intact and do not enter dormancy, so that photosynthesis can continue. Under the condition that the leaves of the seedlings still have physiological function, a little potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution can be sprayed to increase the cold protection ability of the seedlings.

Third, the flowerpot is buried underground

It is recommended to bury the flowerpot before letting the cuttings survive the winter. at the same time, the soil buried in the flowerpot needs to be wet and thoroughly watered. Then cover the soil until the edge of the basin is flattened. Generally need to choose a sunny and wind-proof place to bury the flowerpot, generally under the south wall is more appropriate. Planting potted plants in this way can protect the roots from frostbite to a large extent.

Then wait until the leaves of the cutting seedlings fall off, and then cover it with a layer of straw, leaves and other things, which can also play a good role in keeping warm and keeping out the cold. Generally through these measures to deal with, potted rose cuttings are relatively easy to survive the winter safely.
