Pig yellow fat disease is commonly known as "yellow fat pig", which is characterized by yellow fat after slaughtering. The occurrence of yellow fat is generally believed to be related to pig breeds, heredity and feed, and yellow fat meat is still edible.

1. Etiology

The main cause of the disease is excessive feeding of unsaturated fatty acid glycerol, or lack of vitamin E, resulting in the accumulation of acid-resistant pigments in adipose tissue, especially large amounts of fishmeal, fish miscellaneous, cod liver oil by-products, silkworm pupa and so on. Yellow fat disease can occur.

Second, the main points of diagnosis

(1) clinical symptoms. For yellow fat disease pigs, it is difficult to diagnose before death, and the diseased pigs have no special symptoms. The coat is usually rough, tired and weak, and the mucous membrane is pale. Most of the diseased pigs lose their appetite and grow slowly. Sometimes claudication occurs. There are secretions in the eyes.

(2) pathological changes. Fat and body cavity fat were yellow in varying degrees, and there was no yellow staining in other tissues and organs. Jaundice is different, jaundice pig skin, mucosa, subcutaneous fat, aponeurotic ligament, cartilage surface, tissue fluid, joint capsule fluid and viscera are yellow.

III. Prevention and treatment

The prevention of yellow fat disease mainly lies in the adjustment of diet, limited feeding of fish products or silkworm pupae, and if necessary, 500-700 mg vitamin E per day, which has a certain effect. If yellow fat has been formed, it will take a long time for all acid-resistant pigments in the tissue to be removed.
