Sow abortion, stillbirth, how to differentiate diagnosis
Embryo loss occurred in sows during pregnancy.
Pregnant sows do not have any symptoms of miscarriage, regurgitation, false pregnancy and loss of embryos.
The main reasons: excessive feeding in the first trimester, lean and malnourished sows, excessive stress, high temperature and shock.
The sow had no symptoms and had a miscarriage.
①, mummy, malformed fetus, weak piglets, dead fetus showed osteolysis, corruption, blackening, partial placental calcification, fetal edema, hyperemia and necrosis.
Possible cause: parvovirus.
②, fetal brain enlargement, hydrocephalus, subcutaneous edema, abdominal effusion, eye deformity, blindness.
Possible cause: encephalitis B.
③, fetal autolysis, normal appearance, subcutaneous edema, diarrhea, hydronephrosis, hemorrhage, suppurative placenta, white droplet necrosis on placenta.
Possible cause: Brucella.
④, mummy, stillbirth, low birth weight, deformed pigs, high weak rate, newborn piglets hairless, exophthalmos, cervical skin mucoedema, most of them died within a few hours of birth.
Possible cause: iodine deficiency.
The sow had mild symptoms and had a miscarriage and stillbirth.
① and sows have mild cough and asthma, fever, vomiting, miscarriage, stillbirth, mummies, white necrotic spots in fetal liver and kidneys, and some piglets with figure-of-eight legs, convulsions, limb paralysis and neurological symptoms.
Possible reason: pseudorabies.
②, sow drowsiness, anorexia, fever, constipation and diarrhea occurred alternately, and the fetus developed mummies, stillbirth, edema, dehydration, head and limb deformities, liver necrosis, weak piglets and died for several days.
Possible cause: classical swine fever.
③ and sows are extremely weak, sleepy, hard to breathe, have a small number of offspring, mummies, stillbirths, weak piglets at birth, and fetuses often die at different stages of development.
Possible cause: swine flu.
④, sow asymptomatic, occasional fever, stillbirth, weak fetus, deformed fetus, sudden onset of suckling piglets, decreased sleepiness, increased body temperature, abdominal breathing, white or yellow serous nostrils, purple plaques on the body.
Possible cause: toxoplasmosis.
Most of the abortions in sows occur at the same stage.
① and sows developed anorexia, fever, vomiting, diarrhea and hematochezia, fetal placental spotted bleeding, and some sows died after vomiting.
Possible cause: non-plague.
②, sow anorexia, fever, dyspnea, delayed delivery, mummy, stillbirth, weak baby, red bleeding spots on piglet placenta, sow miscarriage 10 days earlier, longer estrus, non-estrus, infertility.
Possible reason: blue ears.
This is a miscarriage caused by a ring or blue ear.
Blue ear placenta
③, sow abortion, nasal disc, gums, hoof scabs, blisters around the breast.
Possible cause: pig blister disease.
The causes of abortion and stillbirth in sows are complicated, mostly caused by reproductive disorders, so sow vaccine immunization and sow health care must be done well. At the same time, attention should be paid to feeding management and nutritional balance, especially vitamin deficiency in sows, excessive mycotoxin in feed, and abortion caused by environmental stress.
