Why does the dragon fruit only grow lateral buds but not height?
The dragon fruit is a kind of succulent plant which integrates ornamental and fruit picking, and it is also a kind of fruit plant. Therefore, some potted friends in order to meet the viewing while being able to pick and receive sweet and delicious fruit and plant it as a family pot, but the premise is to raise it well.
Because many potted friends are not well managed in the process of potted planting, there is a phenomenon that only lateral buds grow but not height. In fact, the dragon fruit only grows lateral buds but does not grow high, which is not only not beautiful, but also may not be able to blossom and bear fruit, so it is naturally impossible to taste the sweet fruit.
The dragon fruit is a kind of plant which is easy to grow lateral buds. With the growth of the mother plant, it is easier to grow lateral buds from the bottom to the top of the stem wherever there are bud eyes. After obtaining sufficient water and nutrients, these lateral buds will continue to grow and form lateral branches.
But it is precisely because the dragon fruit sprouts a large number of lateral buds, but also continues to grow, so it is bound to consume a lot of nutrients from the mother plant. The result is that the nutrition is too scattered, not only the growth of the mother plant is gradually weakened, but also because of the large number of lateral buds and obvious nutrient competition, so the lateral buds do not grow well.
Therefore, when there are too many lateral buds, it is bound to snatch too much nutrients, so that the mother plant naturally needs to get very few nutrients, so it will cause slow growth or not growing tall. In order to avoid this situation, it is usually necessary to erase or cut off the side buds of the dragon fruit when it is seen.
However, we should not cut off all the sprouting lateral buds, and we should adhere to the principle of going down and leaving them weak and strong. And most of the lateral buds need to be cut off, and only a few or even one branch bud needs to be retained. The potted dragon fruit cultivated in this way is not only more beautiful in plant shape and exuberant in growth, but also easier to blossom and bear fruit.
