Peonies need sunshade in the afternoon, because plants take a lunch break in the high temperature in summer, dormant and close their stomata, so they can't use too much light energy. But do not need all-day sunshade, peonies prefer light, in order to carry out photosynthesis, to produce enough nutrients.

Do peonies need sunshade in summer?

1. Sunshade in the afternoon

The temperature is high in summer, especially from 12:00 to two o'clock in the afternoon. Although peonies like light, they can't stand the high temperature. Plants go dormant on summer afternoons and close their stomata, unable to use too much light energy. You can move the peony indoors at noon in summer, wait for the temperature outside to be a little cooler, and then move out at three or four o'clock.

2. Peonies like light

Peonies do not need all-day sunshade in summer. Peonies prefer light to carry out photosynthesis under light to create enough nutrients to promote the opening and quality of flowers. If in the dark, the growth of peonies will be hindered or even unable to blossom. Keep plenty of high light at all times except on a hot afternoon.

3. Avoid exposure to the sun

Receiving light does not mean putting the peony directly in the sun, but receiving scattered light or diffuse light in the sun. Long-term direct exposure will make the surface temperature of the soil on the high side, too high temperature will burn the root system, but also increase the surface temperature of leaves, the rapid rate of water loss, resulting in leaf burns, causing flowers and leaves to wither.

4. Shading effect

Proper shading can reduce Tween in summer, reduce transpiration rate, and prevent excessive evaporation of water in plants. It can also maintain the normal respiration rate and photosynthetic rate of plants and make more rational use of light energy. The photosynthetic rate of plants is limited, and excessive illumination will increase the burden of light consumption.
