Cold diarrhea in pigs has been confirmed to be caused by transmissible gastroenteritis and epidemic diarrhea in pigs, which used to be easy to suffer from in cold seasons, but now there is no obvious seasonality. Once pigs get this disease, in addition to severe diarrhea and death of pigs (the mortality rate of suckling pigs can be up to 100%), it also seriously affects the growth of pigs and increases the elimination rate of pigs. In order to effectively control the occurrence of the disease, the pathological features and control measures of the disease are introduced as follows:

Pathological characteristics of cold diarrhea in pigs

Porcine transmissible gastroenteritis and porcine epidemic diarrhea is a highly contagious infectious viral diarrhea disease, which can infect pigs of all ages, especially piglets under 10 days of age have high morbidity and mortality. The main symptoms of swine disease are vomiting, severe diarrhea (watery diarrhea like spray) and dehydration.

In addition to diseased pigs, the virus pollutes feed, drinking water, air and other media and infects pigs through respiratory tract and digestive tract. Other factors such as bad feeding conditions, monotonous feed, sudden change of feed, cold and humid environment, and long-distance transportation can promote the occurrence and prevalence of the disease. The course of this disease is usually 3-7 days.

Prevention and control measures of cold diarrhea in pigs

First, do a good job in the isolation and disinfection of pig farms in the introduction of purchased pigs and popular seasons, according to the situation of sick pig farms over the years, most of them are caused by careless introduction or purchase of young pigs. in addition, in the epidemic season, pig farms did not do a good job of disinfection and other measures led to the introduction of exogenous viruses, the prevention and treatment of porcine transmissible gastroenteritis and epidemic diarrhea mainly depends on prevention.

The second is to make good use of the vaccine for breeding pigs to enhance their resistance to the disease and begin to use it in September and October every year. In order to ensure a high level of antibody production, the immunization was boosted again 30 days after the first immunization, and pig Houhai acupoint was the best immune site.

Third, if the disease occurs in pig farms, the diseased pigs should first be isolated and the polluted environment should be strictly disinfected. Stop breastfeeding or feeding sick pigs, and provide cold protection, clean and dry environment, give an adequate amount of clean drinking water, minimize all kinds of stress. Generally take symptomatic treatment, such as rehydration, convergence, anti-diarrhea, correct acidosis and other measures to control secondary infection. (source: pig breeding auditorium)
