Influenced by his grandfather and middle school teachers, Xu Shirong witnessed the hardships at the bottom of society during his service and nurtured the hunger of others. He went abroad to obtain his second master's and doctoral degrees and became a scholar following the Frankfurt School and post-positivism.

After Xu Shirong got his doctorate, the political Department invited him to teach at his alma mater for 25 years. Xu Shirong said, "what I can do is to pass on my faith." He hopes that through his own curriculum, students can participate more, discuss more and challenge public affairs more, so that the thinking of multiple values can be brought into public policy.

He said in earnest that Taiwan's public interest must be reinterpreted and defined. In the past, the government and the capital side regarded technology as the truth and used very limited knowledge and thinking to grasp decision-making power. this is a kind of bullying to social weakness, and land expropriation is the best example. To break the hegemony in the field of ideology and knowledge, Xu Shirong said: "We still have a long way to go."
