Family potted tortoise back bamboo after years of growth, the soil will gradually become compact and hardened, and the nutrients in the potted soil will be exhausted, and the flowerpot will be covered with green plants. In order to ensure the growth space of the plant, avoid the crowding in the pot, improve the ornamental ability of the pot, and provide adequate nutrient supply, we need to change the pot at the right time.

The change of pot and soil of tortoise-backed bamboo, like most plants, is carried out every spring. When changing the basin, it is suggested that some mature organic fertilizer should be added to the bottom of the new basin as the base fertilizer, and the maintenance should be carried out after the successful change of the basin and soil, and only after the plant returns to normal growth can it be transferred to the normal maintenance management.

However, according to my years of maintenance and management experience, it is not recommended to change the whole plant pot. Because the tortoise back bamboo which has been grown for many years has been full of flowerpots, if the whole pot is used to change the pot, it is easy to cause damage to the root system, even if the pot is changed, it is difficult for the plant to return to normal growth in a short time.

In my opinion, the best way is to change some or half of the plants in the flowerpot, and the whole pot can be changed two or more times. That is, it is safer to change one batch this year and another one next year, and it is not easy to breed germs. More importantly, even if a batch of plants fails to change pots, the rest of the plants will not be affected, so it will be safer to change pots.

In the process of changing the basin, gently remove the soil that adheres to the root system of the part or half of the plant that needs to be changed, so as not to damage the root system, especially the main root. It is inevitable to hurt a small amount of fibrous root, but as long as the main root is not hurt, it is very easy to survive after changing the basin.

Then add new culture soil to the new basin, because the tortoise back bamboo likes fertile soil, it is recommended to put some long-term base fertilizer at the bottom of the basin. And then put in the plant. It can only be watered after 2-3 hours of walking at the end of the basin, or it can be sterilized by spraying carbendazim solution once.
