With the development of large-scale and intensive pig production mode, the diarrhea control of weaned piglets has gradually become a key concern of pig farmers. Of all the factors that may cause diarrhea in piglets, nutrition is the easiest to control and the most likely to be ignored.

1 causes of nutritional diarrhea in piglets

1.1 Digestive physiological defects. During the weaning stage, the digestive organs of weaned piglets are still in the developmental stage, the volume and weight of organs are small, and the digestive enzymes and bile acids of weaned piglets are seriously insufficient. Within 1 week after weaning, the lipase activity in pancreatic tissue of 21-day-old weaned piglets decreased, and pepsin was not affected by weaning stress, and increased with the increase of age and feed intake.

1.2 the immunity is low. Due to the influence of weaning stress and environmental changes, the immunity and disease resistance of early weaned piglets were low. At the age of 3 weeks, the piglets began to establish their own immune system, and the speed was relatively slow. it was not until 4-5 weeks old that the antibody could reach a certain amount and produce effective immune protection. However, weaning stress reduces the level of circulating antibodies and suppresses cellular immunity.

1.3 stable intestinal microflora has not been established. The species and number of microflora in the intestinal microflora of weaned piglets are easy to change. at this time, the microflora is very fragile and prone to the imbalance of microflora. After weaning, due to the introduction of a large number of bacteria and fungi in the feed, at the same time, the higher pH in the gastrointestinal tract led to the destruction of stable microflora, harmful bacteria began to increase, resulting in diarrhea.

1.4 Feed factor. The formula of feed for weaned piglets is the most important factor affecting nutritional diarrhea of piglets. In order to meet the nutritional needs of piglets, formulators usually design high-energy and high-protein diets for weaned piglets, but under the combined action of high energy and protein and imperfect digestive system of piglets, piglets are prone to diarrhea.

2 measures to prevent nutritional diarrhea in weaned piglets

2.1 rational preparation of diets. The diet of weaned piglets should be in accordance with the physiological characteristics of weaned piglets. In addition to nutrition to meet their needs, palatability and digestibility should also be high. At the same time, reasonable crude fiber in diet plays an important role in the normal development and function of gastrointestinal tract and other digestive organs of piglets and the maintenance of normal microflora, but too high will lead to diarrhea.

2.2 add emulsifier. The emulsifier can emulsify the fat-soluble substances in the diet, which is easy to be digested by lipase in piglets. Studies have shown that the addition of bile acid can not only play the role of emulsifier, but also activate lipase, enhance lipase activity and promote animal fat digestion. At the same time, bile acid actively combines with fatty acids to form bile acid-fatty acid complex, which is recognized by the small intestinal chorion and enters the chorion to complete the fat absorption process.

2.3 add probiotics. The addition of probiotics increases the number of beneficial bacteria in the intestine, which makes the beneficial bacteria occupy a dominant position in the competition of other bacteria. At the same time, the products of probiotics in the intestinal tract inhibit the reproduction of harmful bacteria and reduce the incidence of diarrhea in weaned piglets.

2.4 others. In order to better reduce the diarrhea of weaned piglets, in addition to the above steps, adequate supplementary feeding and changing the feeding mode of weaned piglets before weaning should also be carried out, with less feeding and wet feeding of clinker as far as possible. in order to reduce the effect of feed changes on the intestinal tract of animals.

If pig farms want to get higher economic benefits, it is necessary to reduce the diarrhea rate of weaned piglets. Only by fully mastering the physiological function of weaned piglets and providing healthy and reasonable diet is an effective way to reduce nutritional piglet diarrhea.
