First, make preparations before giving birth

It is very important to keep the delivery room dry and clean. Before entering the delivery room, the sows should be cleaned, washed and disinfected.

1. The equipment in the delivery house should be intact to ensure the creation of the most suitable environment for sows and piglets.

2. in the early morning of the week before delivery, the pregnant sows were carefully rushed into the prepared birth column after fasting, body surface cleaning, disinfection and deworming. After arriving at the column, a small amount of wet mixture should be given and anti-stress additives should be added to make them familiar with the new environment and reduce stress reaction.

3. The breeder should be fixed after the sow enters the delivery house. It is very important to take good care of sows and parturient sows, especially parturient sows.

4. The room temperature should not be too high in summer. If the temperature in the delivery house exceeds 30 ℃ and the humidity is high, the sow will feel uncomfortable, shortness of breath, fever and affect lactation.

5. Prepare delivery tools, such as delivery registration form, sacks, towels, scissors, disinfectant, iodine, etc.

2. Techniques for safe delivery of sows

1. Accurately record the birth time and birth interval. It is important to record the data of delivery, which can reflect the birth interval of piglets and see if there is something wrong with delivery. If the sow is quiet and the piglets are born at intervals of a few minutes, the process of giving birth is normal. On the contrary, if the sow is very restless and laborious, and the litter interval is above 45min, manual intervention must be carried out.

2. The operation method of sow midwifery. If individual pigs have a history of dystocia, special care is needed during childbirth, especially when it is difficult for older, heavy and stressed sows to give birth. The specific operation methods are as follows:

(1) the hindquarters and vagina of sows should be cleaned with alcohol or chlorhexidine.

(2) wash hands and wear direct inspection gloves and latex gloves.

(3) push the gloved hand slowly through the vagina and into the cervix.

(4) as soon as the gloved hand enters the uterus, the piglet's head or hind legs can often be touched. If this is the case, grasp the hind leg or head of the piglet according to the fetal position and slowly pull the piglet out. Make sure that the placenta is not pulled out with the piglets.

There are many reasons for the slow birth of piglets, which can not be injected with oxytocin without examination, which is likely to lead to the premature death of piglets. And in view of the importance of the delivery process, someone is required to be on duty 24 hours a day.

3. Normal delivery technology. Before labor, scrub the breast and vulva with 1/1000 potassium permanganate aqueous solution, and then pay attention to observe the process of delivery. The following measures should be taken:

(1) the state of sows at the time of giving birth. Most of the sows lie on their side when they give birth, with abdominal pains, shivering all over the body, urgent breathing and hard work. The vaginal discharge of amniotic fluid, two hind legs straight forward, tail curled up, giving birth to piglets.

(2) the state of piglets at birth. After the fetus enters the birth canal, most of the umbilical cord is broken from the placenta, and the oxygen supplied to the piglets through the umbilical cord stops, only waiting for the piglets to breathe with their lungs after birth. The head that comes out first when the fetus is born is called the anterior position of the head, accounting for about 60%; the man of the buttocks is called the anterior position of the buttock, accounting for about 40%, both of which are normal fetal position.

(3) delivery. Keeping a quiet environment when sows give birth can prevent dystocia and shorten the time to give birth. After the piglet is born, wipe off the mucus from the mouth and nose with a clean towel, so that the piglet can breathe through its lungs as soon as possible, and then dry the whole body. If the weather is colder, immediately put the piglet in the incubator to dry. Piglets should eat colostrum as soon as possible after birth, which can not only make piglets get nutrients, increase resistance, but also improve the litter speed of sows.

(4) Rescue of fake dead piglets. Piglets that do not breathe but whose heart is still beating after birth are called pseudo-dead piglets, and immediate measures must be taken to make them breathe in order to survive.

The methods to save the piglets are as follows: lift the two hind legs of the piglets with the left hand and beat the piglets on the back with the right hand; hold the hips of the piglets with the left hand and the back of the piglets with the right hand, and move both hands forward and backward at the same time, so as to make the piglets flexion and extend naturally, which is called artificial respiration exercise; dip the cotton wool with alcohol or spirits, smear the nose of the piglets, and stimulate the piglets to breathe.
