There are three cultivation methods of narcissus bulb: scale cultivation, lateral bud cultivation and lateral bulb cultivation. The lateral bulb is a sphere growing on both sides of the mother ball, which can be removed and planted in autumn, and the lateral buds need to be dug out from the inside during bulb castration and sown. Scale breeding requires two scaly fragments to be cultivated in the dark.

How is the daffodil bulb cultivated?

1. Scale propagation

In the cultivation of daffodils, the method of scale propagation is generally used to cultivate bulbs. Put the bulb of daffodils in a low temperature of 4-10 degrees Celsius for 4-8 weeks, cut the fragments with two scales from the bulb disc, put them in a dark place of 20-28 degrees Celsius, and develop a seed bulb after 2-3 months.

2. Lateral bud propagation

Daffodils generally do not have seeds and do not need seeds to reproduce and breed. One of the more common methods is lateral bud propagation, that is, during bulb castration, white buds along with broken scales are dug out from inside the bulb, sown on the seedbed in autumn, and new bulbs can grow the following year.

3. Lateral bulb reproduction

This is the most commonly used and simplest method for bulb cultivation and reproduction of daffodils. On both sides of the bulb of the daffodil, there will be a lateral ball connected only at the base to the mother ball, which can easily detach itself from the mother, and can be removed artificially during cultivation and planted alone in autumn, so that a new ball can grow next year.
