A new choice for sightseeing! The Shipping Bureau of the Ministry of Communications said yesterday (18) that it had completed the renovation of the Kaohsiung Lighthouse and Park and reopened it to the public to welcome people to enjoy a century-old cultural tour and unique natural scenery.
The Port Bureau said that in order to maintain the century-old Kaohsiung Lighthouse, since 106, in accordance with the Taiwan Lighthouse renovation and Development Plan, lighthouse renovation, reinforcement, renovation and improvement of obsolete facilities have been carried out to enhance the visibility and public safety of buildings, so as to achieve the goal of preserving marine cultural assets. After three years of efforts, the renovation of the park was finally completed in August 109.
Kaohsiung Lighthouse, formerly known as Flag Hou Shan Lighthouse or Flag Hou Lighthouse, is the only lighthouse in Taiwan co-constructed with the fortress. It was originally a white tetragonal red brick lighthouse built in 1883 (Guang Xu 9). After beating dogs and opening port in 1916 (Japanese University Zheng5), the Japanese converted it into a white octagonal concrete lighthouse to tie in with the Kaohsiung port expansion plan. Although it was strafed by machine guns during World War II, it operated without damage. It is enough to witness the history of the development of Dagou Port.
In order to let the public understand the history and culture of the lighthouse in Kaohsiung, a literature and history room is set up in the tower park. Visitors can browse the memorabilia of the lighthouse, classic videos and collections of old photos through interactive facilities.
