The root of Cymbidium is fleshy fibrous, milky white and very stout. The root system is thick and fleshy. The persistent leaf base of the stem base of Cymbidium expands and embraces each other into a pseudobulb. Leaves from the root of the short stem in a two-row stack, neatly arranged, broad band-shaped, round top, hard and thick texture, and glossy and veined. Basal leaves thick, sword-shaped, leaf blade leathery, dark green, glossy, banded, 30-50 cm long, up to 85 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, lower attenuate, alternate, entire.

Scape is extracted from leaf axils, and if it is preserved from the seed, it will generally blossom when it reaches 15 leaves. The flower stem is ca. 2 cm wide; the floret is stipitate, umbellate at the tip of the flower, funnel-shaped, erect, yellow or orange or orange-red. Umbels terminal, flowers erect, with several imbricate bracts, each with 7-30 florets, up to more than 40. Perianth lobes 6, connate. Smiling gentleman orchid flowers slightly drooping, perianth narrowly funnel-shaped. Pedicel 2.5-5 cm long; flowers erect upward, perianth broadly funnel-shaped, bright red, with yellowish inner surface; perianth tube ca. 5 mm, outer whorl perianth lobes with slightly convex head, inner whorl apical retuse, slightly longer than stamens; style long, slightly protruding outside perianth.

Berries purplish red, broadly ovoid. Flowering period from New Year's Day to the Spring Festival, mainly in spring and summer, can blossom throughout the year, sometimes in winter, but also in summer between June and July. Fruit ripening period of about October, belonging to berries, purplish red. Flowers and leaves are not beautiful.

Fertilization methods of Magnolia

Application of base fertilizer

Also known as base fertilizer. The main function of base fertilizer is to create conditions for the development of plants and to meet their own nutrient needs. The base fertilizer of Magnolia is used every two years when changing pots. The commonly used base fertilizers are: animal manure, green manure, compost, bean cake fertilizer and so on.

Method

Mix the base fertilizer with the soil before planting.

Topdressing

Topdressing is carried out during plant growth. Commonly used fertilizers are: cake fertilizer, bone meal, fish meal and so on. With the increase of plant growth age, the leaves grow up and their own nutrients increase, and timely topdressing is beneficial to the growth of plants.

Method

When fertilizing, peel the potted soil away from 2 cm to 3 cm, apply fertilizer, and be careful not to get too close to the root system, so as not to hurt the root. Usually once a month, the time can be appropriately reduced by 20 days during the growing period.

Topdressing liquid fertilizer

In fact, liquid fertilizer does not need to buy professional fertilizer, directly soak the rotten faeces of animals and plants, and take the liquid to water 20-40 times, depending on the size of the seedlings.

Watering once after 1-2 days of fertilization, the aim is to seep liquid fertilizer into the root system and give better play to the fertilizer effect. Be careful not to water before fertilizing.

Extra-root topdressing

When there is a lack of nutrients in the soil and the plant is short of fertilizer and grows slowly, the method of external fertilization should be adopted. Commonly used fertilizers include urea, calcium superphosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc.

Method

The fertilizer will be diluted into a solution and sprayed directly on the leaves of the plant, and nutrients will seep into the plant through the leaves. When spraying, pay attention to the positive and negative sides of the leaves should be sprayed evenly. It is usually sprayed every 4-6 days in the growing season, 10-15 days in the semi-dormant state, and after sunrise.
