Laoya persimmon is one of the best tree species to make ornamental fruit bonsai, especially to make it into an old pile ornamental bonsai. But as we all know, many flower and fruit plants can be divided into male and female. Usually, male trees will not bear fruit after planting, and only female trees can bear fruit after successful pollination.

In fact, Laoya persimmon, a small deciduous tree, is also male and female, which is usually referred to as dioecious. But this situation is not absolute, although Laoya persimmon is dioecious in most cases, it may occasionally encounter the phenomenon of hermaphroditism, but this situation is very difficult to encounter.

If it is a hermaphroditic plant, self-pollination can be carried out after flowering. If it is dioecious, it is often necessary for the male flower to pollinate the female flower before it can bear fruit. The same is true for Laoya persimmon, although the male tree only blossoms but does not bear fruit, but we can use grafting means to graft the female branch on the public tree, we can also achieve flowering and fruiting.

Grafting method is widely used in the process of planting and breeding Laoya persimmon. After all, it is usually dioecious. By grafting the branches of the mother tree on the public tree to achieve both flowering and fruiting, so as to produce a beautiful ornamental bonsai more smoothly. For dioecious persimmons, it is often necessary to pollinate female flowers with male flowers before they can bear fruit.

However, there is also an exception, Laoya persimmon may also produce self-fruiting phenomenon, but this situation is very rare. On the other hand, if the persimmon does not pollinate the pistil through the stamens, even if it produces fruit, the fruit usually grows slender, and the fruit does not contain seeds and cannot be reproduced by sowing.

In addition, the male and female of Laoya persimmon is also relatively easy to distinguish, we only need to observe the flowering state at the flowering stage to be well identified. If it is a male persimmon tree, there is no Epian on the receptacle when it blossoms; if it is a female persimmon tree, there are a lot of Epian growing on the receptacle when it is flowering, which surrounds the flowers.
