Treatment of postpartum fever in sows

Treatment should be done as early as possible, and different treatments should be given to mild and severe cases according to body temperature, appetite and spirit. Mild illness: the body temperature is about 40.5 ℃, do not eat, the spirit is OK. The patients were injected intramuscularly with penicillin 1.2 million units and streptomycin 1.5g twice a day for 2 to 3 days, and Pituitrin 20 to 40 units for 2 to 3 days. Severe disease: body temperature is above 41 ℃, spirit is depressed, like to lie, do not eat, shiver, lochia more. Use 10% 20% sodium plus 10 ml, skin injection: tetracycline hydrochloride 1-1.5 grams, dissolved in 5% glucose saline 500 ml intravenous injection; pituitary vasopressin 20-40 units intramuscular injection. The above three drugs were given once or twice a day for 2 days.

Prevention of postpartum fever in sows

1. The shed and utensils shall be thoroughly disinfected with 2% caustic soda solution or formaldehyde solution one week before delivery.

2. Sows should be gradually reduced in prenatal diet and should not be fed before parturition, which is conducive to smooth delivery.

3. Sows scrubbed the vulva and breasts with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution before and after delivery.

4. if you have difficulty in giving birth, use Pituitrin 20: 40 units intramuscular injection to induce labor. Try not to reach into the birth canal and touch it. When you have to, wash the operator's arm with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution and apply sulfonamide ointment to prevent infection of the birth canal.

5. The changes of spirit, appetite, lactation and body temperature of sows should be closely observed within 1-3 days after delivery. When giving birth in hot season, sulfonamides and vasopressin are used to prevent postpartum fever at the end of labor.
