Many farmers in Beijing, Northeast China and other places reported that some of their pigs showed purple ears and low spirits. Many people doubt whether it is blue-ear disease. According to the breeding experience, the causes of this symptom are summarized as follows.

Blue ear disease generally appears, then the mortality rate is high, the course of disease is short. There are many kinds of pig ears turning blue, including the edges of the ears are blue, the roots of the ears are blue (they may not die for many days after they appear), and the whole ears are blue (the speed of death is very fast, there is a little purple in the morning, the ears are very purple in the afternoon, and the whole body is purple, and then die at night).

Pig ears blue should be considered in two cases: bleeding or congestion? Press hard on the ear for a second or two, then let go to see if the blue area has faded (whitened). If the color fades, it indicates congestion, and if there is no change, it is bleeding.

The end of the limb is congestion, because of right heart failure.

Bleeding is a sign of septicemia. The lesion of septicemia is often the redness of the skin, especially the abdomen. Pulmonary edema, varying degrees of bleeding in multiple organs (sometimes it may not be found that there is no difference from classical swine fever in terms of bleeding points alone).

The cause of blue (purple) ears in pigs

Pulmonary dysfunction refers to inflammatory changes in the lungs caused by various causes (such as classical swine fever, streptococcosis, infectious pleuropneumonia, asthma, blue ear disease, pseudorabies, bacterial pneumonia, anaerobic pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, circovirus disease and cold, etc.), resulting in decreased alveolar oxygen exchange capacity, decreased blood oxygen content, increased carbon dioxide content and darkened blood color. The areas of congestion and congestion are easy to show dark red and purple.

Cardiac dysfunction is that the function of the heart pumping blood circulation is decreased, the blood circulation is blocked, and congestion occurs at the end (ear margin, lower abdomen, eyelid, etc.). Causes that can cause cardiac dysfunction, such as infectious pleuropneumonia, can cause increased pericardial fluid, cardiac hypertrophy, and weakness in contraction; this will also occur when the course of pulmonary dysfunction is slightly longer.

When lung function and heart function are impaired at the same time, the congestion at the end is blue (purple). Therefore, the appearance of blue (purple) ears in pigs is not the basis for judging an infectious disease.

The principle of treatment for the occurrence of purplish ears

As mentioned earlier, there are many causes that can cause ear purpless. classical swine fever, streptococcosis, infectious pleuropneumonia, asthma blue ear disease, pseudorabies, bacterial pneumonia, anaerobic pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, circovirus disease and cold can cause ear purple. Treatment principles: treatment of pneumonia, prevention of mixed sensation, cardiotonic.

Treatment of pneumonia, refers to the cause of ear purple, will cause lung lesions in varying degrees, targeted treatment of pneumonia, the recovery of lung function is the key to the treatment of ear purple.

Anti-mixed sensation refers to the etiological mixed sensation that can cause the ear to be purple.

Differential diagnosis should be made during treatment, mixed infection should be paid attention to, and different treatment schemes should be adopted according to different causes.

Cardiotonic, refers to the treatment of pneumonia and mixed sensation at the same time, with dexamethasone sodium phosphate or an sodium coffee and other cardiotonic drugs, promote cardiac function, import blood circulation, alleviate and eliminate the symptoms of ear purplish.
