Treatment of hemolytic disease of newborn piglets
Hemolytic disease of newborn piglets is an acute hemolytic disease caused by colostrum. Characterized by anemia, jaundice and hemoglobinuria. It usually occurs in individual litters of piglets, but the fatality rate can reach 100%.
1. Etiology
The disease is an autoimmune disease caused by different blood types between sows and piglets. Because the fetus has a specific antigen inherited from the breeding boar, it enters the human mother through the placenta and stimulates the sow to produce a large number of specific antibodies (hemolysin, etc.), which can enter the milk from the blood and the highest content in the colostrum. When newborn piglets suck colostrum, they are absorbed into human blood through intestinal mucosa, causing red blood cells to be dissolved and destroyed.
2. Symptoms
The piglets developed the disease a few hours or more than ten hours after sucking colostrum, showing atrophy, cold fear, reverse coat, non-feeding, weakness, yellow eye conjunctiva and gingival mucosa, red or dark red urine, rapid heartbeat and rapid breathing.
3. Pathological changes
The skin and subcutaneous tissue were significantly yellowed and the mesentery omentum peritoneum and large and small intestine were yellow. The liver is swollen, the spleen is enlarged, the kidney is congested and enlarged, there are bleeding spots or spots in the epicardium, and dark red urine accumulates in the bladder.
4. Prevention and treatment
At present, there is no specific treatment for this disease. When it is found that the piglets are sick, the whole litter of piglets immediately stop breastfeeding, switch to artificial lactation, or be replaced by other lactating sows. After 3 days, the mother's milk can be fed to piglets. When mating sows, you should know whether there is hemolysis in the piglets born after breeding boars in the past, and if so, you can not use the boars to breed.
