"I inherited my father's career, and he and I shared the ultimate wish that the world could no longer need a library." Chen Chun-Lang, the founder of the child's study, died suddenly last year. His son Chen Yanhan followed his father's dream, providing hundreds of Taitung children with nutritious food and free space to dream through nine study rooms.

In addition to accompanying the children, the study also accompanies local farmers to transform friendly farming. The harvest of friendly passion fruit is on the market. In addition to desserts and drinks used in coffee shops run by the bookstore, outsiders are also welcome to buy. From taking care of children to helping places, Chen Yanhan says that he hopes that more families can take good care of their children. "compared to having more books, we hope that in the future every child can grow up confidently and happily in a loving environment."

"Children's Book House" is located in Taitung Dazhi area. Its founder, Chen Junlang (nicknamed "Chen Dad"), took his two children to settle down in Taitung more than 20 years ago. By accompanying his own children, he extended the study where other children could come together.

So far, we know that there are nine study rooms in this area, and there are now more than 200 children, ranging in age from kindergarten to high school. As long as there are children in need of assistance, they can feel at ease after school to do their homework, read books, play music or exercise in the study, without having to worry about being accompanied by their parents.

The study is the second home for more than 200 children, and it is even equipped with a central kitchen to prepare dinner for the children of nine study houses. Wu Jincang, who has helped in the study for more than a decade, said, "for many children in the study, a nutritious dinner is the best meal of the day." Wu Jincang said that the local family situation is different. Some parents have several jobs, while some parents are in poor condition. "it is a question whether the children have enough to eat and whether they are healthy or not."

The meal served in the study is compared with the school nutritious lunch: taking into account the intake of all kinds of nutrients (starch, green vegetables and protein), and making different dish color changes every day to satisfy the taste buds of children. The central kitchen is clean and tidy. At 04:30 in the afternoon, the cooks have cooked the dishes and packed them into baskets in each study. "it takes an hour and a half to deliver the whole study, so that the sub-packing will not be mistaken and can ensure that the children will still be hot when they eat."

In addition to serving dinner every day, one day a week in each study, children are allowed to cook by themselves. on the day of the interview, it was the turn of the Qinglin study to prepare meals for the children. Liao Tsung-fu, the study teacher, was picking corn, green peppers, baby tomatoes and all kinds of wild vegetables in the fields of the study. 05:30 was the time for junior high school to finish school, and the children also came to the study one after another.

"the study is the second home for children, and it is to make them relax." Liao Tsung-fu says that although it is the children who prepare the meal, it is up to the child to decide what time to cook, and to allow the children to decide and cook on their own, and to give them autonomy and build self-confidence. "when they get home, they can also prepare meals for the whole family and take care of their families."

Around six o'clock, the children began to wash and cut vegetables in the kitchen, pick up oil bottles and soy sauce, and stir-fry vegetables and rice in front of the gas stove. Almost all children fry a dish and then go outside the kitchen to have a rest. "at first, adults will see that they are eager to help their children get things done, but this is a transitional period in which we can get things done in one go. We have to be patient and can only help. No interference." Liao Zongfu said.

"No matter what the children cook, we must finish it carefully." Liao Zongfu recalls with a smile that in the past, some naughty children made "creative cuisine," and the most bizarre one had a rice with pearl milk tea flavor. "of course we won't scold, but other children will react directly, and he will know the consequences of mischief."

On the day of the interview, the children in Qinglin study used private green peppers to prepare dinner (photo _ Lin Yijun) "give the child enough love, the child will never go bad!"

At nearly seven o'clock, the children cooked fried rice, fried mushrooms with green peppers, steamed eggs with preserved eggs, fried amaranth, Wonton soup and Xiancao tea. After the meal, the children who did not cook helped clean up the aftermath, washing the dishes and cleaning the table methodically. Then some children began to do their homework, some children began to sing, and some children talked to their teachers about what happened at school.

"Primary school students will ask them to form the habit of writing homework, while junior high school students will let them practice self-discipline." Tonight's club class is guitar lesson. Several older children can't wait to go upstairs and sit in front of the teacher with guitar. The other children downstairs were doing their own business. Towards eight o'clock, the elementary school boy who had finished his homework played basketball outside the house until his family picked it up after the night shift, or was personally sent home by the study teacher.

In addition to staying in the study every night, the study holds activities around the island every summer vacation, including cycling, canoeing and mountain climbing. "if you give children enough love, they will never go bad!" Wu Jincang said firmly.

At present, the study has about 70 regular partners. as a non-profit organization, the annual expenses of the study are staggering. In the past, Chen's father was unwilling to accept government resources. "Dad thought that once he accepted it, he would be limited." Therefore, the study has also set up bakeries, black children's black coffee, and so on. In addition to moving towards self-sufficiency, it is also hoped that children in the study can have a place to experience before they leave society.

And the study not only accompanies the children, but also accompanies the parents and helps the local transformation. Chen Yanhan says, "the existence of a library is like a doctor. The existence of a doctor represents patients, and having a library means that families are unable to take good care of their children. Compared with more books, we hope that in the future, every child can grow up confidently and happily in a loving environment.

The orchard, which has been transformed from a clover leaf into a friendly passion fruit, is one of the examples. Chen Yanhan recalls that Typhoon Niebert razed the homes and workplaces of many Taitung people in 2016, and the study joined the ranks of rebuilding, helping families rebuild their houses and helping locals find jobs. The study also helps farmers turn to friendly farming, which is responsible for the contract and then the sales.

"as a matter of fact, I have long wanted to change the leaves to other crops and take advantage of the opportunity of reconstruction after the typhoon to comply with the trend." Chang Chien-Chong says that in the past, his family used to adopt the usual agricultural method to grow clover leaves and often sprayed pesticides. He always hoped to change his farming methods and turn them into other crops. Unexpectedly, Typhoon Nebert razed the clover net room to the ground. Zhang Jianchong simply changed to grow passion fruit friendly. at present, he has also obtained the certification of friendly farming from Taitung University.

Zhang Jianchong built a net room with double-layer gauze. "what passion fruit fears most is the bite of fruit flies." When I walked into the net room, I could see 800 neat passion fruit branches stretching against the pillar. There were two passion fruit branches on each column, one to the left and the other to the right. "Last year I planted 400 so that each plant grew on both sides, but this year I chose to grow on one side of each plant, so that the burden on the plant would be relatively small."
