Recently, some of my friends have been calling or sending Wechat to ask me that pigs have recently found sneezing, nosebleeds and "sighing" sounds when pigs are breathing. The feed intake, spirit, stool and urine of pigs did not change much. Especially the piglet in the delivery room, it is said that the price of the piglet is so high now. You can't make a mistake. What's going on? Based on my many years of practical experience, I would like to discuss my understanding of this disease.

01

Infectious atrophic rhinitis

The disease is medically known as porcine infectious atrophic rhinitis. The source of the disease is a chronic respiratory infectious disease caused by toxigenic Pasteurella multocida and Bordetella bronchisepticum. Manifested as sneezing, the nose will flow out transparent mucous fluid in the early stage, purulent secretions in the later stage, and severe nosebleed. Another prominent feature of this disease is dyspnea caused by inhalation. Piglets in delivery room, weaned pigs and fattening pigs are all likely to develop the disease, but sows do not show clinical symptoms.

The disease has a high incidence after the Spring Festival every year. After the pig farm is infected with this disease, if there is no good prevention and control measures, the disease can occur repeatedly in the pig farm for a long time. It is a headache for the majority of breeding friends.

The disease can be caused by pigs of all ages, and it is most common in pigs of 5 months after weaning. Piglets in the delivery room show sporadic disease, and adult pigs become carriers without symptoms after infection. After the pathogen is excreted from the nasal secretions of diseased pigs and infected pigs, it is transmitted through the respiratory tract through air droplets. Especially when sows are sick, it is most likely to transmit the disease to piglets.

Poor feeding and management, wet pigsty, lack of protein, minerals and vitamins in feed are more likely to promote the occurrence of the disease. Although the disease spreads slowly in pig herds, it still causes heavy losses to pig farms.

02

Clinical symptoms

The disease first occurred at the age of one week. The piglets sneezed, with a small amount of serous or purulent secretions from their nostrils, sometimes with blood, and in severe cases, bleeding due to nasal mucosal injury caused by sneezing. Sick pigs show unease due to rhinitis stimulating the mucosa, such as shaking the head, arching the ground, rubbing the nose, and often shed tears.

Individual pigs are even unable to eat, and most of the diseased pigs have normal body temperature, spirit, appetite and feces. Even if the symptoms are obvious, the body temperature does not necessarily rise. Very few sick pigs will cause pneumonia, if secondary mycoplasma pneumonia, blue ear disease, porcine haemophilus disease can aggravate the disease, serious can lead to death.

03

Individual therapy

Intramuscular injection of compound sulfadiazine.

(1) intramuscular injection of 15 mg per kilogram.

(2) long-acting oxytetracycline was injected intramuscularly according to 20,000 units per kilogram of body weight.

(3) penicillin is 30,000 units per kilogram of body weight.

(4) ampicillin per kilogram body weight 20,000 units.

(5) Ceftiofur sodium is injected intramuscularly per kilogram body weight of 10 to 5000 units.

When using the above methods, if the pig's body temperature rises, it should be properly combined with antipyretic and analgesic drugs.

(6) kanamycin can be used when piglets sneeze. Dexamethasone and epinephrine hydrochloride are mixed in a ratio of one to one nasal drops, 0.5ml in each nostril, once a day for two to three days.

(7) dissolve with 1 million units of streptomycin sulfate plus 5ml injection water, or use "nose and eye clean" potion. Drop into the nostril, suitable for the disease can be used several times.

(8) you can also use 400g purple garlic to mash the juice, add normal saline 600ml, sesame oil 250ml, mix and shake well, dip cotton into the mucous membrane of pig nose.

(9) install 1% warm salt water into the utensils. Keep the water depth above 20cm, put bait into the salt water, let the pig head into the warm salt water, keep the warm salt water into the pig nostrils three to five times a day, three to five days to heal.

In the season of high incidence of the disease, medicine can be added to the whole group, 1. 5% per ton of feed. Tylosin 100 grams with sulfamethazine 100 grams. two。 150 grams of doxycycline. Use it for 7 to 14 days according to the severity of the disease!

04

Precautionary measures

In the season of high incidence of the disease, in order to control the transmission of sows to piglets, preventive drugs can be given to sows in the last month of pregnancy. Sulfadiazine or oxytetracycline or tylosin or doxycycline are commonly used for seven days. Within three weeks of birth, it is best to use sensitive antibiotic injection or nasal spray. It can also vaccinate sows with atrophic rhinitis vaccine, improve the maternal antibody titer, and have a good protective effect on delivery rooms and weaned pigs.

There are two kinds of immunization procedures that everyone can choose flexibly according to their own conditions. the first scheme is to vaccinate the sows two months and one month before giving birth. The second scheme is that sows are generally protected three times a year after basic immunization.

05

Personal suggestion

If the pig farm delivery room piglets and weaned piglets often develop atrophic rhinitis. Vaccination of sows should be considered first, as it will be easier to deal with. Most of the time, piglets can control the outbreak without injections. The temperature of the enclosure should be maintained in management. Keep the enclosure dry. Scientific disinfection. The heat preservation and ventilation are coordinated.
