In the process of pig feeding, due to poor feed quality, feeding mildew spoiled feed and improper feed preparation, feed poisoning is more common. Once poisoned, light will affect the growth and development of pigs, severe will cause death. This paper lists the common feed which can not be used to feed pigs for reference.

Large quantities of succulent vegetables, beets and grasses that accumulate and rot

If the green fodder has been stacked for too long, moldy and rotten, or boiled and braised overnight in pots and jars, the nitrate in it will be reduced to nitrite. When the green fodder is cooked and braised in the pot for 24 hours, the content of nitrite can reach 200~400mg/ kg (lethal dose is about 70~75mg/ kg body weight), so it should be fed fresh or immediately after cooking, not stewed in the pot.

Fresh and tender sorghum seedlings, corn seedlings and fresh flax leaves

These feeds contain cyanoglycosides. After stacking, mildew or frost wilting, the cyanoglycosides are hydrolyzed to release hydrocyanic acid under the action of special enzymes in plants. The regenerated seedlings of corn and sorghum after harvest are more harmful after frost. Hydrocyanic acid and cyanide are so toxic that even small amounts can cause pig poisoning.

Germinated potatoes and their stems and leaves

The green stems and leaves, bark, especially germ contain solanin, and the content is the highest in the germ of potato block and in the epidermis that becomes purple and green by sunlight. Solanum nigrum can stimulate intestinal mucous tract inflammation, after entering the blood, can damage the medulla oblongata and spinal cord, resulting in toxic paralysis. It is forbidden to use potato germ as fodder in production. For germinated, partially rotten or green-skinned potatoes, the germ, green skin and rotten parts should be cut off, washed and cooked before feeding.

Sweet potatoes with black spot or powdered pulp ground from sweet potatoes with black spot

Sweet potato is the most suitable for pigs, raw and cooked feed pigs like to eat, but cooked feeding is almost twice as high as raw feeding protein digestibility. Sweet potatoes suffering from black spot contain mycotoxins, which will cause poisoning after pig food. When feeding, the black spots will be cut off and washed.

Raw soybeans and soybean meal

Legume feed contains antitrypsin, saponin, urease and so on, which affect palatability and feed digestibility, and even cause diarrhea and weight gain, so soybean meal should be cooked.
