The application of artificial insemination technology in pig farms is now very mature. No matter it is a large-scale farm or small and medium-sized retail investors, some of them are in use, but it still needs certain technology to do a good job of artificial insemination, especially in the details of sow estrus identification and artificial insemination. Now I will talk to you about these precautions and misunderstandings, hoping to help pig friends.

I. Problems that should be paid attention to when checking sows

1, check sow oestrus is generally half an hour after feeding and before dark to complete (easy to observe).

2, check oestrus to ensure that boar and sow nose to nose contact. Sows in oestrus respond within 5 minutes of the back press check; those that do not respond need to be rechecked for oestrus 12-24 hours later.

3. Check the situation with an old boar with strong sexual desire. Such as in the pen to check estrus, be sure to use boards and other auxiliary, so that boar in a few sows before the movement. Contact time takes 5-10 minutes.

4. When boar contacts sow, inspectors should observe sow behavior and performance behind sow pen and record on site.

5. When using the method of pressing back to determine standing estrus, 3-4 sows should be limited to a group. If the sow is driven, it is best to have 5 minutes for the sow to settle down.

6. One third of all the working time of the breeder should be placed on the identification of sow estrus.

7. Estrus identification was carried out twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The method of combining artificial investigation with boar test was adopted.

Second, several misunderstandings of sow artificial insemination

1. The conception rate of native cross is higher than artificial insemination, and the litter size is also higher.

If semen quality is good and insemination time and quantity are appropriate, conception rate and litter size will not be low, but try to avoid mistakes in artificial insemination management and operation details.

2. Artificial insemination is easy to cause sow weak offspring and uterine inflammation

Before artificial insemination and copulation, the vulva of sow should be disinfected. First, wipe it with clean gauze dipped in 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, and then wipe it with disinfectant tissue. Never rub the inside of the vagina unless it is contaminated.

The vas deferens should also be cleaned and disinfected. If strictly disinfected, the incidence of metritis in artificially inseminated sows is actually lower than in naturally mated sows.

3, temperature error

Semen taken from the semen storage box at 17℃ does not need to be heated to 37℃. After shaking, it can be directly inseminated; however, when examining semen viability, the slide should be preheated to 37℃, so that the examination is accurate.

In addition, semen in the process of preservation in the incubator, in order to prevent sperm precipitation coagulation caused by death, should be inverted or gently shaken every once in a while (about 12 hours). After semen is removed from the incubator, it should be injected into the sow in a timely manner for no more than 2 hours.

4. The more mating times, the better. The greater the artificial insemination quantity, the better.

In fact, too many breeding times will increase the chance of sow reproductive tract infection, artificial insemination not only waste semen, but also increase costs.

The number of infusions should be appropriate, and the insemination can be repeated once after 8-12 hours; the volume of each insemination is about 40 ml, and the number of infusions and the volume of insemination depend on the sow breed.

5. After semen transfusion, pull out the vas deferens immediately

After semen infusion, sow should be prevented from lying down immediately, causing semen backflow. Sows should be stimulated for about 5 minutes by massaging sow breasts or pressing sow backs or stroking sow genitals;

After semen transfusions, the vas deferens should remain in the reproductive tract, fold the rear of the vas deferens, tie them with ropes, and let the vas deferens slide naturally slowly. Do not disturb the sow's rest within a few hours after insemination to avoid stress.

6. Artificial insemination immediately after sow feeding

Sows fed, unwilling to move around, reduced libido, not easy to conceive, can lead to return to love. And after artificial insemination, it is best not to feed the sow water immediately.
