First of all, we must know whether orchids should be watered in winter, and the orchids of good farmers should not be drenched in winter. The longest watering interval is 60 days, and orchids are not dried up due to lack of water.

Of course, how to water in winter is related to your maintenance environment. Temperature and humidity are key. Southern orchids are mostly imitated outdoors, unless they are particularly cold. Orchids in this environment do not need watering, and the factor temperature determines that the water consumption of orchids is very low.

If it is indoor in the north, the temperature can reach more than 20 degrees, and the ambient humidity is also small, which requires consideration of watering. When watering, press the usual method, need to pay attention to the ventilation after watering must be good. If you control the temperature, let the natural wind flow as much as possible.

Orchids are watered differently in winter, south and north. It depends on the location and temperature, the pot used for planting orchids, the material of the culture soil used, the particle size and permeability. The optimum temperature for orchid growth is 15 to 30° C, with the fastest growth and maximum water demand at 18 to 28° C. When the temperature is below 15° C, growth is very slow and water requirements are low. When the temperature drops below 10° C, orchids stop growing and go dormant, requiring little water. So at this time the soil in the basin can be slightly moist. Usually with fingers into the pot soil 1 to 2 cm, feel the pot soil does not have a wet taste, you can pour a small amount of water from around the pot surface, do not need too much watering. To avoid the phenomenon of rotten roots and seedlings caused by long time pot soil moisture at low temperature. In the professional orchid shed orchid field, due to the relatively high air humidity, the whole winter basically little watering. In family farming, humidity usually does not reach a certain condition, family farming is generally the use of purple sand pots, permeability is better, so according to the room temperature situation, appropriate increase in the number of watering, but also to master, do not pour too much water at one time.

Another is that the watering on the orchid pot is different. Usually, the pottery pot and the purple sand pot will be watered a little more frequently. The plastic basin has a certain moisturizing effect, poor permeability, and does not need to be watered frequently. The materials and particle size of the culture substrate will also directly affect the amount and frequency of watering. That is to say, organic plants have good water absorption and water retention performance, fine particle substrates will take a little longer, and large particles should be watered more frequently. And some of the culture soil organic matter content is small, some beans stone, ceramsite, plant gold stone and other materials account for a large proportion, ventilation and permeability is strong, it should be appropriate to shorten the watering time. All of these require accumulated experience in daily management and flexible application in combination with actual conditions. The proper time for watering must be chosen according to the local temperature and weather conditions.
