For orchids, the most important thing is the matrix, if the matrix is not good, it will affect the growth of orchids, and if the matrix is not well disinfected, it will lead to orchids later prone to a variety of diseases and insect pests, the following introduces several matrix disinfection methods.
1. High temperature disinfection
Boil the plant material in a pot, or pack it in a plastic bag, heat it in the microwave oven for 5 minutes, and use the high temperature to kill germs and eggs. However, this method is more troublesome and more suitable for disinfection in the case of a small amount of plant material.
2. Sun exposure disinfection
Spread the plant evenly on a clean floor or board, accept sunlight exposure, and turn the plant regularly to fully accept the sun, using the sun's ultraviolet rays to kill germs and eggs. About 5-7 days, can kill most of the bacteria, eggs. Although this method is not as thorough as the previous one, it is simple and convenient and is more commonly used.
3. Potassium permanganate disinfection method
Put the plant material in a large plastic bucket, pour it thoroughly with 500 times potassium permanganate solution, then cover it with a lid, rinse with clean water two days later, and then it can be used to grow orchids. This method is also simple and easy to operate.
4. Fungicide irrigation method
The orchid plant was watered with soil disinfectant sodium sulfonate diluent or carbendazim solution, sealed for 24 hours and dried in the sun.
It is also suitable for disinfection of potted soil with orchids. When it is used, the disease can be controlled by irrigating roots once a month and twice in a row.
