The winter in the south is also very cold this year. In Hunan, where I live, a blizzard before and after New Year's Day directly lowered the temperature to minus 5 ℃, and the ice edges condensed under the eaves were all 20 centimeters long. The unexpectedly cold made my potted plants suffer heavy losses. Phnom Penh orchids, longevity flowers, green pineapple, copper herb, purple bamboo plum, andrographis andraeanum and other cold-resistant foliage plants are almost wiped out!

Suggestions for avoiding the loss of potted plants in winter:

When the winter temperature hovers around 10 ℃, the cold-resistant plants should be moved indoors in time or other heat preservation measures should be taken, and the potted plants can be placed on the windowsill with scattered sunlight if possible. Watering as far as possible in the sunny noon, and do not water too much at one time, avoid stagnant water overnight, maintain good ventilation in order to pass the winter smoothly. At the same time, most plants in winter are dormant and semi-dormant, generally do not change pots, do not apply fertilizer, the less the better!

The potted plants at home are frostbitten and the leaves become transparent. How to remedy them?

If a potted plant is frostbitten, it should be moved to a warmer environment, thawed naturally, and then dealt with according to the degree of frostbite. Leaves become transparent, blackened leaves, often after thawing will be in a state of water, basically irreversible. Can first trim all the frostbitten leaves, and then observe the situation of frostbite on the rhizome. Plants without frostbite in the rhizome can be placed in a warm environment, continue to breed for a period of time, and there is hope if they can send out new leaves. For example, plants such as orchid, green pineapple, longevity flower, Anthurium andraeanum, purple bamboo plum and so on can be treated in this way.

Pot plants generally slow down or completely stagnate their growth and metabolism when the ambient temperature is lower than 10 ℃, and only some cold-tolerant plants can adapt to a short-term low temperature of about 0 ℃. In winter in the north, potted plants can be moved into heated rooms and basked in the sun through glass; in the south, potted plants can be placed indoors or on closed balconies, and potted plants still exposed can be covered with transparent plastic bags, which can basically survive the winter smoothly.
