Plant ash is a kind of natural high potassium fertilizer, which is used frequently in agricultural production and plays an important role in flower breeding. Rational use of plant ash can not only make the roots of flowers and plants healthy, but also make the branches strong, the leaves green and bright, prevent diseases and insect pests, prevent premature senescence and yellowing of leaves, and so on. Therefore, in the process of orchid culture, plant ash extract can be used to spray leaves to supplement potash fertilizer and prevent diseases and insect pests. However, when using plant ash leaching solution for orchids, we should pay attention to the following problems, otherwise it may have a reaction and affect the growth of orchids.

1. Choose high quality plant ash

Plant ash is the residue of plants after burning. Many flower lovers think that the more thoroughly plants burn, the higher the quality of plant ash. In fact, this is a misunderstanding, after the plant completely burns, the ash will turn gray, at this time the content of potassium will be reduced, the fertilizer efficiency will be greatly reduced. The real high-quality plant ash should be black, that is, the plants are not fully burnt out. So when we choose plant ash, try to choose the darker ones instead of the gray ones.

Of course, the depth of plant ash color is also related to the types of plants, some burning after the color is very dark, some burning after the color is a little lighter, specific treatment of specific problems. When you make plant ash at home, don't let the plants burn too thoroughly, just put out the fire when you burn almost all of them but don't burn out. Can be made with straw, wheat straw and other flammable substances, try not to use hard wood production, easy to burn insufficiently, curing is too large, is not conducive to dissolution and use.

2. The proportion should be grasped.

When using the plant ash extract to make the foliar fertilizer of orchids and other flowers, the proportion should be grasped. Too low concentration has little effect, and too high concentration may cause fertilizer damage. It is recommended that the ratio of water to plant ash should be controlled at 10015. 8, that is, 50 to 80 grams of plant ash are dissolved in a kilogram of water (about two mineral water bottles). There are also flower friends who dissolve 100 grams of plant ash in a kilogram of water, which is not used very frequently. For orchids with weak growth, this ratio is a bit high.

How much is fifty to eighty grams of plant ash? It is really difficult to do without weighing tools at home. I usually have two bottles of mineral water, plus a handful of plant ash, and I don't have any bad symptoms when I use them. If you have a weighing tool at home, you'd better be more accurate. If you really don't have it, make a rough estimate. In addition, the concentration of good-growing orchids can be slightly higher when using plant ash extract, and the concentration of weak orchids can be slightly lower when using plant ash extract, which should be grasped flexibly. If flowers and plants grow worms, if you want to use plant ash extract to kill or prevent pests, the concentration should be a little higher than when fertilizer, the effect will be better.

3. Soak for enough time

Most of the nutrients in plant ash dissolve into water, but it takes a process. It is recommended that the soaking time of plant ash should be up to 48 hours, at least not less than 24 hours, otherwise the nutrients in the ashes are not completely dissolved, which will affect the fertilizer efficiency. Some flower friends use it after soaking in plant ash for an hour or two, and blame them for not working.

4. The plant ash solution should be fully filtered.

After soaking in plant ash for a period of time, when you feel that the fertilizer effect has been dissolved, you can't spray the flowers directly. You'd better do a filter to filter out the residue, leaving only clear liquid to spray again. This has two advantages, one is that it will not leave water stains or spots on the leaves of orchids or other flowers, affecting ornamental. Another point is that it is easy to spray and will not block the outlet of the spray can.

For flowers with high foliar ornamental value, such as orchids, magnolia, orchids, etc., the extract of plant ash must be well filtered, otherwise it is easy to leave spots. Some flowers have villi on the leaves, such as herbaceous begonia, rhododendron, etc., and should be filtered thoroughly when spraying plant ash extract. I usually use an old mask and filter it two or three times to make sure it is clear before using it. It's a little troublesome, but after using it, the flower leaves are very clean and the color of the leaves improves quickly.

5. Do not use plant ash solution too frequently.

Ordinary flowers use plant ash, at most every seven days, orchids and other flowers that do not need too much fertilizer can be used every 15 days. Although plant ash is good, it should not be used too frequently. It is enough to use it once or twice a month during the peak growing season.

6. Plant ash should not be used with nitrogen fertilizer

When using plant ash, you should be careful not to use it with nitrogen fertilizer, which will reduce the fertilizer efficiency. It can not be used with acid fertilizer, which will also reduce the fertilizer efficiency. Therefore, when using plant ash leaching solution, it is best to use it alone, do not mix with other drugs or fertilizers.
