How to obtain excellent seeds of Cymbidium
In order to obtain excellent seeds of Cymbidium, artificial cross-pollination must be adopted, that is, cross-pollination between different varieties or different plants of the same variety. The specific methods are as follows:
First, select the variety with good comprehensive shape as the father and mother. When the flower blooms for 2-3 days, the stamen anther splits longitudinally to reveal yellow pollen, then use a brush to bullet the male parent pollen into the glassware and cover the glass. When the stigma of the female parent blossoms for 2-3 days, mucus appears on the stigma. This is the best time for pollination, which can be 9-11:00 or 13:00 in the afternoon. Dip the prepared stamen pollen grains with a new soft brush and gently smear the stigma. In order to improve the fruit yield of pollination, it can be pollinated twice in succession. Then hang the label and write down the name of the father and mother and the number of pollination. If the number of cultivated Cymbidium is small, the anther can also be removed with tweezers and pollinated directly to the pistil stigma, which is called direct pollination. Once pollination is successful, the fruit will mature after 7-8 months. The orchid harvest can cut the ear when the fruit is slightly red, tie it with a rope and hang it upside down in a cool and ventilated place for several days. When the fruit is crimson, peel off the seed coat and select the seeds at the same time, leaving the well-developed seeds with full grains. These seeds can be sown after drying for 2-3 days.
