Cowpea is what we often call long beans in our daily life. The nutritional value of cowpea is very high and very popular, so there are still many people growing cowpea. When we plant cowpea, we need to do a good job of management according to the growth period of cowpea. Especially in the seedling stage, how to manage the cowpea seedling stage? Let's take a look at it with the editor.

1. Sowing to unearthing

After cowpea seeds are sown, they will be unearthed in about five days under normal management. During the period from sowing to unearthing, the temperature should be kept at about 28 degrees. The lowest temperature should not be lower than 15 degrees. If it is lower than 15 degrees, the seeds will rot because they cannot bear the temperature. So if we raise seedlings in March when the temperature is not yet complete, then we must pay attention to the change of temperature and check the temperature of the seedling bed. Then pay attention to pouring enough water when sowing, and do not water before it is unearthed, so as to avoid causing the soil temperature to drop and rot the seed.

2. Unearthed to mature seedlings

About a week after the cowpea seeds were sown, the aboveground parts began to elongate. The temperature can be lowered appropriately at this time. The temperature during the day should be kept at about 20 degrees, but the temperature at night should not be lower than 15 degrees. If the temperature is lower than 15 degrees at night, then cowpea seedlings may suffer from chilling injury. And if the seedbed is relatively dry, then it should be properly watered in sunny days, not in cloudy and rainy days to avoid rotting roots and dead seedlings. In addition, we should also pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases to avoid diseases harming the growth of cowpea.

3. From seedling to transplanting

When the cowpea seedlings are mature, it is necessary to determine the transplanting time. Normally, about two weeks after cowpea seeds are sown, we will begin to prepare for the growth of cowpea. At this time, the temperature control is not as strict as before. During the day, the arch shed should be properly removed, but it should still be covered at night. Then at this stage, there is usually no need to water.

4. Determine the seedling age.

The determination of seedling age is very critical. Especially for the transplanting seedling age of cowpea, the best transplanting time should be about two leaves. When the leaves are close to the spreading period, they should be transplanted at the right time. Do not transplant too late, otherwise the survival rate of seedling transplanting will be too low. When transplanting, it should be carried out in sunny days, not in cloudy and rainy days, otherwise it is easy to be affected by diseases and lack of seedlings. If the weather condition is not good when the suitable transplanting period is reached, then we can postpone transplanting for two days.

The above is a brief introduction to how to manage cowpea seedlings. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
